I’m looking for an inexpensive ladder to keep in my walk-in closet so that I can access my attic very infrequently. I’m tired of carrying my huge step ladder up 2 flights of stairs every time I need to go up there. The ceiling is about 8 feet high. My clunky ladder is 5 feet andgets me up there easily. Would this ladder be a good option for my needs?
Asked by: Lizz
This ladder is tall enough to reach items mounted on an eight foot high ceiling (like smoke detectors). The top step of this ladder is only 42 inches (3 1/2 feet) above the floor. It is safe to stand on the top step of this ladder, since you can hold the safety bar, which extends two feet higher. If you are 64 inches tall (5 feet, 6 inches, the average height of an American woman), your head will extend only 14 inches above the ceiling. If you can place the ladder directly under the scuttle hole, leading to your attic, you should be able to pull yourself up into the attic, if your are careful. Coming back down from the attic will be trickier. You will need some one to hold the ladder steady, when you come down, since the ladder is light weight, and easily displaced. If the scuttle hole is in a closet (they often are), this become more difficult. If there is room to set it up, an 8 foot fiberglass step ladder would be more suitable (see https://www.homedepot.com/p/Werner-8-ft-Fiberglass-Step-Ladder-with-225-lb-Load-Capacity-Type-II-Duty-Rating-5908/203134261). It only weighs 18 pounds. It costs only $110 (less than the cost of a visit to the Emergency Room of your local hospital).

The last one I got had the name "Polder" on it so I had been looking for that. This doesn't have that name on it but it's the identical.I have one and it's SUPER lightweight plus it holds a lot of weight. It's a GREAT size; and it folds together to be super skinny. It's easy to set up and fold together. My daughter moved and I wanted to get her the EXACT same thing.Glad I found it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ladder Ladder is constructed from very light weight aluminum alloy. It is by far the lightest ladder I have seen of this size. With the addition of its stability rail, this four step ladder is nearly as functional as a six step ladder.

It lives up to it's promise of being light (about 6 lbs) and is stable enough. The only negative is that the thin steps don't provide confidence, especially when on the top step.
