    A:  hmm it is called a hydraulic log splitter so of course it uses hydraulic. Also makes sense that the oil it takes is called hydraulic oil..

      Broke after a couple rounds of use
      After filling with oil, the splitter worked as advertised. Weld snapped after a couple rounds of use. We are past out 90 day HD warranty and the company that made it is unreachable, HD customer service said we are probably out of luck. Buy with caution.
