Will this product help with in wall/ceiling speaker sound being heard through wall/ceiling

This will probably help - but you may want to consider putty (sometimes marketed as acoustical putty). It's flexible and is designed to be used around electrical boxes and lighting fixtures. Some is sold in sheet form, but Home Depot sells 3M Fire Barrier Moldable Putty Stix. According to 3M it helps reduce noise transfer with an STC-Rating of 56 when tested in STC 56-rated wall assembly.

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We have reached to the manufacturer and their response was "Yes this will reduce noise transmitted to the floor below. Be sure to tape your seams."

Can I layer this material for greater sound insulation?

Sundeep, Yes you can. However you will get diminishing returns. Just because you add a second layer does not mean you will get twice the sound deadening. Making sure you have sound proofed outlets with a putty and you have done the same with vents will help more than a second layer. Mike

This might be difficult to staple through. You might be better off using a countersinking screw. Then spackling over it if you trying to attach directly to drywall or wooden wall. You should be able to paint right over it. Mike

Yes. MLV can be used as a curtain and be rolled down over windows like a shade. This product will also block out all light as it is opaque.

You can install this under drywall or sheetrock to help decrease sound. Using something like Rockwool insulation products betwen your joists can also help decrease the sound transferred. Many people will not remove existing ceilings - leaving existing sheetrock in place - and instead add a layer of this and a second layer of sheetrock. This is how many studios are built, using a product like 'Green Glue' to bind the layers together, but also fight vibration transferring from one layer to the next.

Used it to cover two layers of Rockwool insulation before finishing the wall with two layers of 5/8" drywall. (Used Green Glue noise dampening compound between the drywall, and caulked between the wall and the ceiling, and between the wall and the floor - and around outlets - with noise dampening caulk.) The vinyl doesn't seem to add much more sound dampening than the Rockwool. Very expensive, and bought too may rolls based on the calculations from Pro Service Desk, even though I provided correct wall dimensions. As other reviews have stated, the rolls are very heavy - need two people to carry - which is unexpected, when you feel how thin the vinyl itself is.

Extremely disappointed I had high expectations for this product eliminating my noise problem. First of all, the product is very heavy and hard to work with. I knew that going into the project. It took a friend and myself to hang the material onto the walls and ceiling of a small closet that housed a noisy heat pump hot water heater. The water heater was removed prior to hanging the material. Prior to installing the material I had taken several sound level measurements. The noise level before the install was about 30 dba above ambient noise level. After spending $250.00 for materials and 2 days of work for 2 people there was NO REDUCTION OF SOUND LEVEL. I thought I had done my homework on this product, but obviously I flunked the course. One star is one star too many for this product and I do not recommend this product.

Did not work to insulate wall from traffic noise.
Sad to say this product does not work to shield traffic noise on wall nor window. It was so heavy and not pliable (looks misleading). No staple gun can puncture through. Even nail is hard to get through. The material is so super dense and ineffective. We painstakingly sealed all gaps too.

Will never buy it again. There is much better product out there, about same cost per roll but accessories that comes with it makes it expensive thing to do. But again, keep in mind you trying to isolate sound which is not that easy so I think other product worth to try.
