Questions & Answers

What steel pole to use with it to make the gate?

I see 1 5/8" Yardgard poles, but is there 1 3/8" poles to use with these elbows to make the gate?
Asked by: Jeff
I used the 1 3/8 top rail for my gate. The first one lasted 34 years so I don't think I'll need to make another. The gate was anchored by a standard corner pole set in concrete at a depth of 20 inches. I didn't need to replace that. All the original parts came from Home Depot. I only purchased the new elbows so the gate frame would look new.

How do you attach this to the post?
Asked by: Drew
In my case, I used the existing attachments on the old gate; two pivots that attach to the post-one up on the bottom and one down on the top. The complementary part is already holding your current gate. You can get both parts on the same aisle an most likely right beside the other parts in the store. Everything I needed was within five feet of the elbows, bolts included.

If I purchased one hundred, what price would you be able to give me?

Asked by: Pat
You would have to ask someone who works at the store that question. I only need four to fix my gate

The diameter of the pipe inm

Asked by: Pierre
Pierre, I'm not sure what "inm" means in your post; perhaps it is a typo. If you are asking for the pipe diameter it is 1 3/8 inches (25.4mm).

Because the gates attached to vertical posts, there were gaps under the gates. These gaps needed to be blocked to prevent small animals (chickens, young feral pigs) from getting into a grassy area. Previously, wall stones and sections of logs were stacked to block the space. This made it difficult get equipment, like mowers, into the area, like mowers. I looked into ways to rebuild the gates with an angle at the bottom. When I saw these corner braces, I knew I could fabricate a small, easily removable barrier. I used sections of top rail to build a frame with these elbows bolted at the corners, and wired hardware cloth into the frame. Carabiners attach the frame to the fence and gates.

I recently purchased 4 of these to build a custom size gate for the chain link fence around my front yard. You'll notice this device uses 3 nut & bolt sets that come with it to clamp the pipe in place. Of the 4 I purchased, 3 had bolts that were so poorly made that their threads did not match close enough with the nut to allow tightening more than hand tight before the nut just spun on the bolt. Luckily I had some short 1/4x20 carriage bolts from other projects on hand so I could finish the job. I gave 2 stars because when you're deep into a project and are counting on the supplied parts to work together, it is an extreme hassle to go get better hardware. And the "yes" on recommending the product is conditional; my recommendation would be to purchase1/4x20 3/4" long carriage bolts and have on hand when you're ready to build.

The price was right and it only to 90 minutes to cut the pieces, disassemble the old gate and put it all back together once again. It looks like new at a much lower cost than a new custom made gate.

They are a lighter metal than the galvanized fence top rails that I was joining. I used them to make a rectangular frame to border landscaping rocks around an elevated garden planter.
