Questions & Answers

Will these work for 2 lg dogs?

Asked by: Donna
Measure the diamond size, most run about 1/8" larger than the stated diamond size. i.e 2 3/8" diamond will actually be 2 1/2" opening flat to flat. If you are trying to contain large dogs, or dogs that will test the fence and try to make a hole to get out, then I would avoid this product. Instead you should buy a 9ga chain link. Even though you and I know your dog will never get a hole large enough in the chain link to get out, the dog doesn't know this. They typically will try and try to get that hole larger and larger until they rip their mouth apart resulting in significant dental bills. If in question, go larger. I was a breeder of Labrador Retrievers at one point in my life and learned this lesson the hard way. 11ga 2" diamond is good. 9ga will also be a 2" diamond, and that too would be good. 11.5ga with a large diamond is... Well... You're rolling the dice and the losses are huge when it comes to dogs.

Customer Reviews

YARDGARD 6 ft. x 50 ft. 11.5-Gauge Galvanized Steel Chain Link Fabric is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 110.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Chain link I have never installed a chain link fence before so this project was a learning experience. The chain link "fabric" is heavy and unwieldy for one person to muscle around - but I managed it for the most part by myself. Stretching the fabric tight between poles was the most difficult as I didn't purchase the tool designed for this purpose. Having said that - I believe I managed to get the material stretched plenty tightly enough. Unwinding one wire in the fabric to ensure a custom fit between poles was difficult -- until I learned that you can simply grab the wire you wish to break (with pliers) and break it off by twisting it hard. This process made the job much faster and easier than attempting to unweave the fabric. All in all the fence truned out good and the product was easy to use - I do recommend gloves however!

Not at all like the old chain link we new as kids with one side twisted so it could not be separated. This stuff just has bent over edges at top and bottom that catch the roll as you try to unroll it. Many of the connections are not fully closed but I found you could close them (or open them) with bare hands. A couple of strands actually fell out of my fence while unrolling. The guys who handle this stuff with fork lifts must have contests to see who can inflict the most damage. I had to go to a second HD to find a reasonably useable roll. I think this will probably keep my dog enclosed in the yard, and delineate the lot line but it certainly is not security fencing. Anyone who wanted in, could do so with only bare hands. As someone else said, I could not stretch 50' out of my roll. I wish there was a choice of a better product at HD, even at substantially higher price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT 50 FEET!! I understand that a 2x4 isn't actually 2x4 but wouldn't you assume that a 6'x50' fence, that actually measures 6ft high, would be 50ft long? WRONG. These rolls are 48 1/2 ft long. So, I'm paying guys extra for working on a Saturday, to do a 98 ft stretch. They install it and we're 3ft short, with 2 rolls of 50ft chain link. I called store and they had the audacity to tell me that I'd have to either spend another $80 on another roll or have my guys uninstall it and return it. So, let me get this straight... i've already paid my guys to install it, and now i'm supposed to pay them to Uninstall it? And then what? Have no fence?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 11.5-gauge Galvanized Steel Chain Link I'm installing my fence myself and at 69 years young don't find it to difficult. The install has went well until almost finished. The rolls are not quite 50' as others have mentioned, and if only a few feet are needed to finish you will be require to buy another full roll...... and then do what with the other 40+ feet. Too bad HD couldn't sell shorter sections or by the foot.
