It will get the job done!
I have had this splitter for two years now and it is just as great as it was from day one. It has been very dependable and only has two cons I can think of. I'm an Arborist in Maine and bring home wood we burn every winter. So far I have split about 9 cords of wood with the splitter. Showed my wife how to use it and she loves it. Pros: Power - I've split 3' wide sugar maple bases with this in the upright position. If I can lift it and get it on the rail, it will handle it. Engine - So far no complaints. It sips gas and doesn't seem to have any issues with bolts coming loose or the engine not powerful enough. Hydraulics - I double checked all the fittings when I first received the splitter. After over 45 hrs of use, no leaks. Towing - I towed it 80 miles round trip to work one day. Tows nice and backs up nice too. Cons: Table attachment - I purchased the table attachment to protect the engine. Only problem with that is it makes it more difficult to fill the gas tank. You can lift the cylinder everytime to make it easier, but that is not the most convenient thing to do. Control handle side table - Repeatedly putting heavy logs on that table has caused it to bend down. I'm and arborist so I bring home large logs frequently. This could benefit from a more sturdy table. Because of these two cons, I rated 4 stars. Would do 4.5 if possible.

    Through one cord
Now that I have a season with this 28 ton log splitter I can speak to it’s power and pros and cons. It is well constructed, and engineered. For my personal home use 28 ton is the best choice since the Briggs and Stratton engine is the same for the 28 and 30, I opted for the slight faster cycle time over drive force. Assembly was straight forward, the fasteners come in a organized plastic to cardboard well labeled package. The engine started after the second pull but after one season it has started the dreaded surging I find so frequent with B&S engines. It now requires choking slightly to keep it running. This happened even after I “winterized” it. The hydraulic lines do get very hot after only some basic splitting. I notices some paint runs made from quick factor assembly but also very nice machining to parts. The kick stand leg design is very bad, dangerous in fact. There really needs to be a fix for this, one that allows for a single operator to quickly latch and confirm at a glance. The included four way splitter is great with smaller logs and helps make quick work for pizza oven size firewood. Operation from both sides makes it easy for two men to get a groove going for some fast conquering of wood piles. The bright orange made it hard to hide from the wife, but easy to identify so my son couldn’t say, “what log splitter”. Overall this log splitter checked off a lot of positive boxes. It has the power to make quick work of a lot of logs, it has a small footprint, is easy to move around the yard, is mostly reliable and is fun to operate.

      YARDMAX SPLITTER
Easy assembly, took about two hours, and started right up! I have already split two cords of logs with out a problem! I have put this splitter to the test, based on what the manufacturer says what it will do! Did a great job, either horizontal or vertical! I have used it about 5 times and it starts every time! I need to split 5 more cords of logs and I'm not worried about it at all! I shopped around and researched log splitter a for about 3 months, and it payed off!!!! THE BEST LOG SPLITTER ON THE MARKET, *and I own it! Whoohoo!!!

Nice log splitter, I have split a cord of hackberry logs up to 26 inch diameter so far. This splitter comes with more features than any other in its price range. I assembled it by myself with the help of an overhead lift. I would get help if doing it alone. The fenders, 4 way splitter, log strippers, and log supports help speed up splitting and protect the machine. The only issue I have is with towing it with a lawn tractor; the lower hitch position causes the hydraulic oil to leak out of the fill tube. This is only because the hydraulic tank is in line with the cylinder. I have not had this issue with other splitters. Overall, I would recommend this splitter to anyone looking for a 20 to 30 ton.

Great installation instructions with well thought out hardware packaging for step by step assembly. The extra effort this company put forth into the hardware plastic sealed template of "bolts by the number" indicates that this company takes pride in their product. Wheels out of way for operation, can operate from either side, and at 488 pounds it is heavy duty to handle large work. I added a trailer jack for hitching up and maneuverability safety.

My first woodsplitter and the way its built probably my last. Heavily built, the side wood cradles are sturdy. I really like the spinning butt plate so as the wedge starts and the log turns the butt end spins as needed. Also the engine is up out of the way of the split wood, excellent idea.

            Half Beam makes use easier
I've owned this machine for three yrs and use it every season, as well as my neighbor and between the two of us, we split roughly 10-12 cord of wood, per season. The type of wood we split varies from Doug Fir; wild Cherry....which has no issues with the Cherry bark....; Red Alder; Broadleaf Maple; and Western Red Cedar. Some of the round's are 30"+ and there have been no issues, re: power. None! I did a lot of research....a lot of research!....before I purchased this. Watched demo video's, read spec's and had conversation's with dealer's. They all led me to this log splitter, mostly because of the Half Beam feature. Having used conventional splitter's before, the Half Beam feature is a plus, as it allows the user to stand at the splitter w/o the tire/wheel being in the way. The user doesn't have to lean awkwardly over the bed. That's a great feature and saves wear and tear on the users back, neck and shoulder's!! The four way splitting head is great for the smaller round's of fir, especially. The feature of tilting the splitting bed to the vertical position is a back saver, with the larger round's, too! I want to add, that the device at the end of the bed, where the wood butts up against, rotate's with the wood as it is splitting and saves wear on the machine. This machine is well thought through with it's feature's and power. I would strongly recommend this product for anyone needing a dependable workhorse, for splitting wood.
