21 in. 140 cc OHV Briggs and Stratton Walk Behind Gas Push Mower is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 1227.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pricepoint mower for small yard does the job just fine I have a fairly smallish, very flat yard. I like to view the chore of mowing as an opportunity for a workout as my day job is mostly sitting. So I didn't need a 4x4 with leather and a cup holder. That said I wanted a good motor that I could rely on and enough power to be a little lazy with my cutting schedule. I think this will do just fine. I have only mowed with it twice so I can't speak to the year 2 potential for problems but this is pretty much the same motor as many other more expensive mowers and I wanted none of their features and certainly not their price tags. This will do. However, the motor does sound a little inconsistent. I'm thinking of adding a fuel treatment to the tank to see if it helps but there is definitely a throbbing idle at work. Doesn't seem to affect the performance at all and it starts on one pull every time so far. I do with the handle was adjustable a bit as I'd like it about 2-4 inches higher angled.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great basic lawn mower. I use it to... A great basic lawn mower. I use it to cut our yard on a mountain which is sloped and somewhat rough. It turned out to be lighter than I thought and as advertised which is a major plus since I'm pushing it uphill frequently. It weighed in at 50 pounds, 16 pounds lighter than the specification stated. The weight of the mowers is of major consideration to us older folks in making a selection and I'm not sure why the makers don't brag about. More, in this case, is not better. Almost all of the mowers in this price bracket are using Briggs and Stratton engines which run great if you skip the ethanol gas. Yard Machines are made by MTD, the makers of Cub Cadet, which I also have and they're better than great. So if this mower is half that good I'll be happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid low maintenance budget push mower No prime, no choke, pull cord and mow Briggs and Stratton motor means 1-2 pulls and it's running. Quiet, by comparison to the masses of other 140cc class motors. Maintenance is 15oz. of SAE30 oil, air filter and a spark plug for around $35 annually. Sharpen the mulch blade or replace for about $25. Only use premium gas and run mower dry during storage to keep the plastic bowl, float and jets clear of bad fuel. Bag is small but does pickup clippings requiring frequent dumping. A metal rod across the lower bars allows bag door to be propped open at about 45 degrees. No bagging and clippings dump in front of mower's feet. At 66 lbs, manuverability is ample and six position height adjustments are a breeze. Easy cleanup with the garden hose and air compressor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Please Read if engine stops working!!!!! I've read many reviews about this mower. I bought it and after one summer it wouldn't start. I changed the air filter and spark plug but still nothing. I use regular unleaded gas that uses ethanol. Biggest problem for small engines is ethanol because it will clog up the carburetor. I watched a YouTube video on how to clean this model lawnmower carburetor. I'm not exactly mechanically inclined but I followed it step by step. It's really easy to clean one. I spent $4 on carb/choke cleaner and when I put it back together the lawnmower started up on the first pull. It runs great. If you can get ethanol free gas, buy it. I was planning on spending about $350-$400 on a new lawnmower but no need. If it stops running clean the carburetor. I hope this might help someone who might be in the situation I was in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I waited a year to write this review because other reviewers had difficulty starting it after win... I waited a year to write this review because other reviewers had difficulty starting it after winter layover. However, I drained the gas tank per the instructions before storage, put in new gas in the Spring and it started right up! This is a poor man's Toro and likely adequate for most lawns. It starts up after one or two pulls and doesn't require priming or choking. The grass bag is on the smallish side requiring frequent emptying and the two retaining screws that hold the handle to the mower hamper bag removal and attachment. Also, whether by design or design flaw lawn clippings shoot out of a gap between the bag and the holding door. Other than those minor gripes, I think this is a good mower for the price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A disappointing mower - buy something else. My last MTD push mower that was similar to this and cost about the same $200, ran great for 12 years even taking some abuse, but getting annual maintenance. The gas tank finally cracked on it and rather than spending $60 to fix a 12 year old $200 mower, I thought I'd buy a new one, even though the old one ran ok, if only it could hold gas. I wish I had fixed the old one instead of buying this new one. So I bought this mower - its disappointing. On the one hand, it does start easily on the first pull. But it lacks power. It can't handle high grass and stalls out too easily in heavy mowing. Also, the grass tends to collect at the base of the bag, vs really getting thrown back up into the grass catcher, and then when you cross from grass to concrete, it all blows out the bottom.... The carburetor is plastic, not the typical B&S carbs where you could buy replacements for $40. The new plastic carb is over $100 if you want to buy a replacement at some point (Seriously? The whole mower is only $200...) Overall disappointing, and a waste of money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Will not start after winter storage I bought this last year and loved it. It started fine, it was easy to push, and it was relatively quiet. It did stall on high grass sometimes but it never bothered me. I did some maintenance to make sure it would last over the winter by draining the gas out of the tank so it wouldn't varnish. We'll now it won't start after the winter and 45 minutes of pulling. Reviews on other sites like Briggs and Stratton, the company that makes this, gives it around a two star rating overall because others are having the exact same issue. The carburetor breaks or is clogged after one winter and requires complete disassembly, maintenance and reassembly and usually a whole new carb. Or take it to an authorized dealer to fix it via the 2 year warranty. I say no. I have never ow ed a machine that died like this after 5 uses and one winter storage. I will not replace a carb every year because it was shoddily built. ($40 carb for a $200 mower every year?). I bought a warranty too from home Depot so I will try to get it replaced, hopefully with a different machine, as soon as possible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Epic Fail...They Don't Make Them Like They Use To!!! Bought this Yard Machines aka MTD back in March 2015 to replace my old faithful MTD of 14 years after it finally gave up the ghost. On first using the mower I noticed it takes 2-3 pulls to start it which kinda sucks seeing as its a new mower. On cutting the lawn I notice how it always boggs down almost dying every time I cut areas that were higher even after adjusting the wheel height to its highest. Well I babied, maintained and stored the new mower for the 11 months I've had it the same way I did for my other MTD and what do you know I go to start it last week and nope it won't start. It was stored with no gas, so I put in fresh gas, oil is good and even change the spark plug but it just won't start. Called Yard Machines and now it's at one of their recommended service centers called Hill Country Outdoor Power for warranty repair. FYI: It also doesn't fold well for storage like other push mowers. It has two sets of bolts that go through the handles whereas one has the easy off wing nuts and the other is a fixed set.
