Why is this vise so much more expensive than the others?

Answer

I suspect you are comparing a Made in the USA vise to an imported vise. Why the price is so different might be because you need to compare the following: • Jaw width to jaw width • Jaw opening to jaw opening • Throat depth to throat depth • Pipe capacity to pipe capacity • Material of construction to material of construction. • Weight to weight. So if we compare a Yost 134C, 6” heavy duty vise to a 6” imported vise, for instance 906-AS, 6” all steel we find the following differences: Jaw Width: Same at 6” Jaw Opening: 10” vs 6”, major difference Throat depth to throat depth: 7.5” vs 3”, major difference Pipe capacity to pipe capacity: ¼” to 6” vs. 0.5” – 2”, major difference Material of construction to material of construction: 65,000 psi ductile iron vs cast steel, major difference Weight to weight.148 pounds vs. 32 pounds. Also the Yost Vise has a lifetime warranty on the castings. The pipe jaws are replaceable. The 906-AS pipe jaws are not.
