Can it be used on grout on walls of shower. Descriptions says no-earlier reply says yes. Does this mean shower tile walls? Why or why not?

It is recommended to use on the floor surfaces, and for a good reason. It's an acid, and if applied to the walls, it will run & can damage the metal fixtures on the wall and even can damage the floor if it's not ceramic.

How to remove this product from stainless steel

Asked by Freddy January 23, 2018

First, there is no "removing it". The acid has a chemical reaction with the surface of some metals (e.g. stainless steel, chrome, etc.) that etch the surface, usually making it darker in color, often in spots anywhere the liquid lands. I learned the hard way (although the package clearly warns). I now mask off any metal anywhere close to where I am working with tape & plastic for a waterproof barrier. How to mitigate? I used Barkeeper's Friend POWDER with a Brillo pad (fine steel wool) & a lot of elbow grease that removes the top layer of metal, back down to a bright shiny surface. You can see some fine scratch marks close up, but the color is what is most noticeable. Your experience may vary & depends on the metal & thickness of the coating. If its chrome plated, you will probably end up seeing some of the underlying brass or whatever it is plated on. Stainless steel is typically solid metal, but can also be rather thin depending on the application. Bottom Line: It will (probably) never look the same, but it can be made to look better.

Can this product be used in my toilet (limestone ring) I have a septic tank

In my prior answer I forgot to address the septic tank part. In general, you do not want to use significant amounts of sanitizing type chemicals (Chorox, chlorine, etc.) with septic tanks as it tends to kill the "good bacteria" in the tank that breaks down waste. But this product is fairly weak and the small amount you will flush down the toilet cleaning it is no worse than anything else you might use (e.g. Lime Away, CLR, etc.). However, if you are cleaning a tile floor you may have much large amounts in the waste you mop up. So that you may want to find a way to dispose of differently.

I have light grey grout and after using the product it looked much darker, even after 8 hours of drying time.

I have a colored grout on my floor too. In between deep cleanings the grout tends to have a lighter look to it due to absorbing liquid from mopping, spills, etc. Once I use this product it removes that film and my grout is much darker. This is normal

do you have to seal the grout again after using?

Works much better than bleach-based
This product easily got the nasty stuff out of our shower grout. Got as far as I could with a bleach-based similar product, them used Zep and it worked great. In the picture you can see where I used Zep on the right and not on the left. Use good thick chemical-resistant gloves, long sleeves and VENTILATE as it can be irritating to nasal passages. I just poured a little in a used baby food jar, dipped an old toothbrush in it and started scrubbing. Very effective!

only got the dirt, didnt whiten the grout
I followed the directions to the “T” . It got the top layer of dirt and left the grout dirty or even dirtier than when I started! I waited a day to let it dry and tried it again and its no better than what it was before I started. So far of everything I tried, toilet bowl cleaner works far better. And yes, I did rinse with water and never let it get dry and wiped it off!

I had low expectations, because cleaning floor tile grout is notoriously difficult. I tried some DIY cleaning mixtures, which required a lot of hard scrubbing on my hands and knees. With the Zep cleaner, I just squirted out the liquid along the grout lines, then lightly ran a grout scrub brush over the grout, mainly to make sure the liquid was in contact with all of the grout surface. Then I waited for 3 to 5 minutes and scrubbed harder (while standing up) using an Unger swivel grout brush with the locking screw-on handle. Just follow the directions on the bottle, and do a section at a time. Then I cleaned up the dirt/cleaner mess with a well rinsed mop 3 or 4 times (mop, rinse, wring out, mop....). Then I let it dry overnight or for 6 - 8 hours with a fan. Then I applied two coats of a good quality (NOT water-based) grout sealer. There's not any point in cleaning the grout if you don't seal it. Two things prevented me from giving it five stars: (1) The bottle dispenses too much liquid, and you don't have good control over how much comes out. (2) After cleaning, I noticed a few very small voids (holes) in the grout. I'm not sure if they were already there and were concealed by the dirt, or if the acidic cleaner eroded a very thin grout layer over the voids, I'll have to fill them.

We recently bought this home so, while I knew the floors needed to be cleaned, I had no idea the grout was actually an entirely different color! I did use a grout brush but it was clear a water & rag would have been sufficient. An amazing product that does exactly what it says it does with minimal effort.

Does an amazing job on tile grout. Can also be used to clean a toilet! It is fairly gentle on painted surfaces, but do not get on any metal surface as it will etch stainless, chrome, etc. I suggest taping\waterproof masking any metal even close to where you will be cleaning. I poured it into a spray bottle to apply which was much easier to control amount & location of application. Wear thick kitchen-style gloves, but does not seem to irritate skin much at all. On heavily soiled areas it helps to use a stiff bristle brush & repeat application if necessary. I did not find a 3rd application helped, so if it is still stained after two, you may wish to look at other options (e.g. grind out & replace grout). On large areas, you may want to use a shop vac to pick up initial dirty liquid, then finish with a clean water mop. Mop several times & change water frequently to avoid leaving a sticky residue. One bottle (you do not dilute this product) cleaned about 100-150sqft depending on the size of tile (smaller tile = more grout = more product necessary) You can order it by the case (4, 32oz bottles) from Home Depot online with free S&H pickup in store (~$1.33/bottle cheaper).

I've had the misfortune of having white grout in multiple rooms, and this is far simpler and saves so much time compared to the homebrew remedy of baking soda with peroxide. It wipes away after a few minutes leaving nice clean grout with very limited scrubbing. I like how quickly it works - less than 5 minutes from the application to wipe away. The final result is fantastic. Our new guest bathroom grout was dark brown before this, and clean white after. I do not care for the spout design, it makes it hard to limit/control the amount of product you're using - as effective as it is you could use a dropper rather than the spout on this bottle. Because of this waste I've used 2 bottles on an area that probably could have used one.
