AnswerThe track is about 1/2" wide. But the strip is close to 2". A gap from a half to a full inch work. I have done two floors with this as a threshold between the flooring and a higher tile. It works very good.

It looks great. But not the easiest to install. You have to be to a gnats a** with the track and the trim. It says to put track 1/8 inch from end of stairs but if you trim up then you need the track to be 1/2 inch away. Oh yea then they give you 3 screws to put down the track you need at least 6
