Is this totally made of vinyl? If it is not all vinyl, what type of tool could be used to cut it ...

Answer

YES the reducer strip is all vinyl and easily cut to fit tightly around door frames with a carpet knife. They come with a metal strip you can put down 1st and to cut those a hand "band saw" was used thru the metal. Then the reducer snapped onto the mounted metal strip. The metal was put down by drilling holes into the concrete flooring thru the holes in the strip. On another door the metal was NOT used and instead the reducer strip was glued down as it is only cosmetic.

I need a reducer to go from 3/8" or 6/16 (before installation) ceramic tile to a vinyl plank floor.

This did not work for me trying to go from a vinyl to tile. Could not get the molding to even seat in the track to hold in place.

OK, so I need to make a strip of wood and attach it to the sup floor to snap the reducer onto it. What would be the dimensions of the strip ?

This is late but maybe can help somebody. I just used these in my home and no you need not put anything down 1st. My home is a slab and this comes with a metal strip that was mounted on the floor by drilling a couple of holes right into the concrete subfloor. Then the vinyl strip snapped onto that metal strip. Really very easy. The size is just as in the title of this strip.

How is this produce attached to the floor?

Again a late response but I just used these. 1 strip did 2 door ways. 1 piece was cut and glued in place to go from vinyl planks to an old carpet and to cover the old silver worn carpet strip was covered only for cosmetics. The other piece went from vinyl to vinyl so the metal strip included was mounted down by drilling a couple of holes directly into the concrete thru the holes in the metal strip. Then these vinyl strips snap onto the metal. I also used the Oak color of Allure vinyl planks these match perfectly.

We had new flooring done for our kitchen and living rooms for the 1st time by a Contractor so NOT D.I.Y. for a change and it was an Ins. Home Owners claim so I had to be within guidelines of prices and such. At Home Depot I found the L.V.P. in Oak color put down in the kitchen and came up under budget which was great. Then I chose this "reducer" instead of the metal "transition strips" to cover an old metal strip that showed wear against the nice new flooring. We only needed 1 strip for 2 door areas which also came under the budget (approx. $21.00 for 1 strip used in BOTH doorways). I have only had them down for a couple of weeks and 1 piece the Carpenter glued on instead of using the included metal piece as it is really just decorative. I LOVE the look and so easy to clean. The cuts around the wooden door frame were easily made and as tight as anything else could do. This strip matches the vinyl planks perfectly and I am including 3 pix. 1 showing this strip against the old carpet that is just decorative (covering an old silver metal strip). The other doorway against old black and white "marbled" look stick on tiles. The other is without this strip at the new carpet transition (NEW metal silver strip). The only thing that would make these better is if there were more than 4 anchors and screws per strip. Would highly recommend tho I can't say anything about how they wear over time. But I even had to order and wait for these I was so set on using them. BTW - just in case I purchased 2 strips and the other wasn't used so I easily returned it to the store for refund. No questions asked.

This style was the best choice for our transition from vinyl plank flooring to carpet. The only issue was the track portion that attaches to the floor had to be raised about 1/4 inch with Styrofoam under it before the transition piece would snap into it. We had to pull it back up to re-do some of the vinyl flooring. Came up easily, didn't crack or break and snapped back into the track with no problem.

Not even close. The design is obviously poorly done. Vinyl does not come close to reaching the metal bracket. Also, screw holes in the bracket were not complete, had to drill them out. And they want you to Wish I had read the other reviews saying the same thing before ordering online and wasting my time.

I followed the instructions carefully but I never got it to snap into the rail. I even tried turning it around. It would not make contact with the rail. I will never buy this again.
