Can this be safely unsnapped at time of carpet replacement? If so how do we remove it?

Asked by Cram November 22, 2020

Answer

Generally these things are a permanent installation. If you attempt to remove it, it will likely break. If the height differential between two different floor materials is large enough, I find the metal gripper doesn't work anyway. If you are installing on a wood subfloor, you might be better off hand nailing it in place.

How precisely wide is the metal track it lays on?

1/2"

What do I do if I have misplaced/lost the screws for the track?

Asked by Mikki August 9, 2020
1
Answer

Buy a bag of new screws that fit your needs. Just make sure the head of the screw till fit within the width and height of the track. I threw away the screws that cam with my track because I installed it on a concrete floor. There is nothing special about the screws that come with the molding so you can replace them with a bag of screws that work for whatever you are attaching it to, wood or concrete.

Is this product and rail flexible enough to curve or use on a corner?

The rail is aluminum. The molding is somewhat flexible but no where near enough for a corner.

If you use the accompanying metal track strip and install it correctly (which is not difficult) the moulding will perform just fine.

I have a 1/2” difference in my kitchen subfloor from the rest of the house. The kitchen is higher. Will this work?

You can use it. We put a quarter round under it for more support of the height difference...for your height difference, I would suggest shoe instead of the quarter round.

Will this work with 12mm laminate flooring?

We used it with vinyl wood not laminate. Laminate is a lot thicker. But I don’t see why not. Great thing about Home Depot you can always return it if it doesn’t work. But don’t cut it. And you can return it.

Color and texture match is very good to Seasoned Wood flooring, but its very hard to use the snap on metal track. Its a great idea but functionally hard to install. I got it to work on some thresholds but not on others. Use nail gun in places I couldn't get it to work to keep the fabricated appearance.

The Harrison Pine Dark Vinyl Multi-Purpose Reducer molding looks beautiful. It is well made and very easy to install. We installed this 2 months ago along with the new vinyl floor and we love it. We have it installed in 3 rooms as a transition and couldn't be happier with it.
