Questions & Answers

Is this product works in crack wall?

Asked by: Cata
Well, yes you can apply it to cracked wall surfaces but it is not designed to "fill" the cracks in walls. It's designed to make potentially flaking paint "stay-put." I'd recommend determining the reason for the "cracking" and addressing that before applying Peel Stop unless you wish to fix-in-place any otherwise loose paint on a wall that has cracks.

Does this work on paint peeling off painted drywall

I have a home I am buying that was painted with latex over another unknown paint over drywall. The top layer is peeling , it was painted within the last 3 months. What would you recommend other than scraping off all the paint in the entire room , is there a primer that would adhere to the paint that is not peeling yet ? My concern is will it hold in future ?
Asked by: Linda
Yes! Remove as much of the peeling paint as possible. Note that there are many reasons paint directly applied to dry wall may peel .... including moisture intrusionfrom behind the drywall... making it "not-so-drywall." Otherwise the drywall may not have been properly primed or the paint may have been applied under adverse conditions. Peel Stop flows around and under peeling chips and afix them to the surface on which the original paint was applied and holds those chipping areas in place. Finishing coats are definitely needed to complete the job,.

peeling paint on outdoor treated wood?

I have peeling paint on the railing of a deck but i can't fit between the uprights to sand it. would this work there? what's the difference between the white and clear? besides the color, i suspect a different formula.
Asked by: gzuckier
First. yes, Peel Stop may be your best product for hard to sand spaces. Have you tried roll sandpaper sanding ... by hand? The product, as I've used it across more than 2 decades, is "white" in the can before application, translucent upon application, and clear when dry and ready for finish coat application. I've never tinted Peel Stop simply because it is a primer and undercoat used prior to a final coat application.

whats the approx coverage per gallon

Asked by: manda
That coverage area will be listed, likely as a range of area, on the product can. Coverage varies with the method of application and the actual condition of the surface to which Peel Stop is applied. The rougher the surface the smaller the area of coverage for a given amount of product. Also, differences can occur in coverage between brush and roller applications and between different roller naps.

I've used it for more than 2 decades. Never had a problem. Then again, Zinzer products are highest quality. On flaky surfaces Peel-Stop allows carefree painting by solidly anchoring potentially loose, remaining paint. I do recommend surface scraping, of course, before applying. You'll get a higher quality, smoother finish. Great on "alligator-like" old paint, especially on those hard-to-sand-smoothe surfaces such as older, weathered plywood. If Peel-Stop hadn't been invented, it certainly should be!!! Applies "milky" but dries clear!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Product We bought this on the recommendation of the paint specialist at our local Home Depot. She said it was a new product but based on what she knew about it, it would work for our project. We were stripping and paint an exterior door. This product was so thick that it would not roll off of the roller nor come off of the paint brush. The little we did get on the door caused two rust spots to form in the aluminum shell! We went back over it with a standard 123 Bullseye primer by rustoleum and it worked beautifully. Don't buy this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time Will Tell I had a really bad front railing that started peel after the first year I painted it. Didn't really want to strip it. So I used this product and so far seems to do as advertised. Time will tell.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I was hoping to find a thick primer, and the Home Depot rep led me to this, but after applying it... I was hoping to find a thick primer, and the Home Depot rep led me to this, but after applying it to my interior door, it went on very thin, and was more like a clear coat of varnish, and not thick the way it is advertised on the can. Very misleading, so after applying half the can on the door, and after it dried it was only cloudy and never turned white, and was definitely not thick. So I had to return this can and pick up another quart of primer that dried white and looks much better than this Peel Stop Triple Thick. The Home Depot Rep at the Returns counter didn't want to exchange or give me a refund since I used almost half the quart, but she made an exception. How does the consumer know if the product works until they apply it? I have been a Home Depot stock holder for many years, so I was disappointed she gave me such a hassle, and I buy lots of products from Home Depot.
