Can you paint over this primer? I have a board that runs along a wood deck that collects and holds water and is causing the paint to peel off. Some spots of bare wood are showing and I want to fix and repaint.

While our Zinsser Peel Stop Triple Thick White Binding Primer may be painted over once it has been applied, it is not recommended for floors, or surfaces subject to foot traffic. Happy to clear things up, Betty. Rust-Oleum Zinsser Peel Stop Triple Thick Primer is not a rust-inhibiting primer would not be effective in rust prevention and protection. I would like to re-finish oak/oak-veneer kitchen cabinets to a smooth satin painted finish. The biggest challenge is filling in the grain of the oak prior to painting. There are a lot of products which claim to fill in oak grain, but I am dissatisfied with the level of effort and expense required to use these products, and judging from the results I see in on-line photos, I'm not willing to experiment with them. I have an alternative idea, however. What I think would work would be first priming with Zinsser B-I-N shellac-based primer (preceded by a bit of prep sanding to rough up the original varnished surface ?) to prevent oak tannin bleed-through, then following with one or more coats of Zinsser Triple-Thick until the grain disappears to my satisfaction. I think that even if I have to apply more than one coat of Triple-Thick, the fact that I just paint it on, it dries fast, and is a soap&water clean-up, it's still easier and cheaper than every other method I've looked at. What do you think ?? Also, can I do light sanding with a 220 or 400 grit between coats of Triple-Thick ? Thanks for your response. Bill

This primer is not designed as a substitute for wood filler, caulk, or drywall mud. We recommend using a wood grain filler for the best results. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

To ensure the best bond to the surface, we recommend new wood be allowed to age and dry for at least 6 months, or have a moisture content below 12% before coating the surface. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2
