Are these primarily steel with a thin coat of poly, or mostly poly with a thin steel center? Are they easy to drive in garden soil without bending or splitting? I'm looking for stakes for indeterminate tomato plants, so one foot in-ground and 6 feet above—are they stable at that depth?
Asked by: PeteroO
I bought these online without being able to test them. They are very flimsy and are difficult to drive into the soil - they bend like rubber bands in hard soil. I think they have a small hollow steel core and a poly coating. Not recommended.

I am using 1 foot. That is sufficient for what I intend. I am using a 2lb hammer.

What is the diameter of these stakes?
Asked by: jam
Approx 0.7 in. out to out of perterbations...similar to that of a deformed bar for concrete reinforcement. They are approx. 0.65 out to out of the rod itself. Keep in mind, this is not the outer diameter of the steel. This is the outer diameter of the coating.

Is the diameter of these stakes 1/2" or 5/8"?

I need the stakes to fit snugly in clips with an opening of 16 mm (5/8") to make tomato cages.
Asked by: Gardener
Hi Gardener! The diameter of these 7 ft stakes, is actually between 1/2" and 5/8", more around 9/16". I hope this helps! -- allFENZ
