AnswersYes, the lid can be opened and closed manually. First, there are actually an Open and Close button on the top of can to manually open and close in the event the sensor is temporarily not working. Also, if for some reason the can doesn't have power to the sensor/lid motor, the lid can be manually lifted and closed.

Almost thought the 23 Gal wouldn’t be big enough but it’s perfect and the best thing about it is not having to touch the lid when I’m cooking. I also don’t have to worry about changing batteries. Can’t go wrong with this one.
I gave it only 4 stars because it did not come with the power cord but the company was very good ...

I gave it only 4 stars because it did not come with the power cord but the company was very good about getting the power cord to me free of charge. Love the can itself and would definitely recommend it! The bag is so easy to come out compared to our last trashcan and makes taking out the trash a breeze!
I bought the original model years ago, and this is definitely a great upgrade to the original mod...

I bought the original model years ago, and this is definitely a great upgrade to the original model. The motor is much quieter, and the design has improved to make changing the trash bags easier. The picture on HomeDepot.com is not consistent with how this product looks, because it looks a lot nicer than what is on the website. Also, this is a more durable design, with less strain on the plastic parts, and more reliability on the metal parts. It was also great to have the AC adapter come with the can so that it was ready to go out of the box. Another improvement that I noticed was that the stainless steel on this model is more smudge proof, so finger prints and other marks are not left on the can as easily as the original model. Finally, the model is perfect for me (larger than the average 13 gallon), so there no need to change the trash bags every other day.
Never thought I'd love a trash can....

Buy It! Completely worth the money! Was looking for a new touchless can to replace the one we had that I killed with water. Definitely wanted something bigger than 13 or 15 gallons. I wasn't sure if this one would fit the space we put it in but it did. It's perfect for a busy family that doesn't want to take out the trash so often. I wasn't sure if I'd like the wheels but I do. It's so easy to pull the can by me when I'm cooking to throw away scraps and trash. Very happy with this purchase, will buy again if needed.

I plugged in the cord it worked for maybe 2 seconds. I realize that it must just be a defective item so am waiting on replacement Home depot was very accomadating

Wanted a a large touchless waste can and this fit the bill. Don’t have to take The garbage out as often. Product came w/ all parts which worried me reading reviews. Easy to assemble. Quiet open and close. Easy to remove bag and replace. No problems after a few weeks so far. Pricey but worth it. Recommend.
