Q:Any idea if this product will work well up against a corner, where I will only be able to apply adhesive on three of the four sides?

Answer This Question

A:  I would say no problem. I use that liquid nails adhesive and I have no doubt that it would hold with only three sides glued.

Q:I am trying to replace a broken 8" panel. What is the rough opening for this panel? Thanks.

Answer This Question

A:  The panel is about 9 3/4 inches square. The opening is about 8 inches square. That extra 1 3/4 inches of the panel is where glue gets applied and then you press the panel into place against the wall or ceiling...centering the hole area.

A:  I used standard caulk but you could use construction adhesive.

A:  I used liquid nails. My panel is on a wall so it pretty much stayed put once I pressed in into place. For a ceiling you have gravity to deal with so you might need find a means to hold the glued panel in place until the glue sets.

        Q:How do you open the door? I don’t see a latch/handle. Is it spring-loaded?

        Answer This Question

A:  It's not spring-loaded. It has a shallow narrow groove on the edge of the door. Just stick a screwdriver or even a butter knife into the groove and pop it open. Easy.

        by|Jul 6, 2020

A:  It's a friction closure, use any flat object to pry it open.

A:  Use a small screwdriver. No springs. Very basic

A:  I use a flat head screwdriver. It is not spring-loaded

            by|Apr 15, 2020

A:  The door has two slots, one each on opposite sides, that accept a flat bladed screwdriver and the door pops off. You might also try a coin. I haven't but I suspect it would work also. This panel solved a problem my daughter was having gaining access to a shut off valve for a hose bib. It looks great and works fine.

Q:Some plumbing above one corner of my living room needs to be accessed and this sort of panel would provide convenience. The ceiling is plaster over wooden lathe and I’m wondering if, and how, this product would be attached to it. Thanks for any inputs.

                Answer This Question

A:  I think you will have problems attaching this product to a ceiling according to the instructions, which advise using caulk. How will you keep the panel tight against the ceiling while the caulk cures? Consider using screws instead of caulk. To do this, I suggest pre-drilling two holes on the hinge side of the rim and two holes on the opposite side. Number 6 pan-head screws should be fine (and you can use white paint or nail polish to make the screws blend in). Since you are dealing with a lath-and-plaster surface, you will have to use some sort of anchor if you miss the lath (plastic anchors will do). Make sure your plaster is sound!

A:  This size access panel is great, especially if you have to adjust a water valve.

A:  I had a similar issue in my daughters condo except her walls are drywall. I used construction adhesive around the edge of the panel. It worked fine and I just saw it at Thanksgiving and it looks great. Her's is used to gain access to a shut off valve for a hose bib on her deck.

A:  You simply apply a quality adhesive caulk to the 4 inside edges and then press the panel into place. The adhesive will adhere to the plaster.

Q:I have two plastic doors in my basement ceiling and they fall off all the time. They don't have a hatch but they look exactly like these. What will cause these to remain fixed to my ceiling or would a different product be recommended since I'm looking for a product that will remain on the ceiling?

                        Answer This Question

A:  I used an adhesive caulk on my door, it holds very well.

                        by|Mar 5, 2019

A:  These are designed to be held on with caulk. I would clean any existing adhesives from both the ceiling and frame of your exisiting panel, and then apply a liberal amount of clear caulk to the frame and press into place. The caulk should be more than enough to hold it into place.
