Q:How fine a saw blade, i.e. teeth per inch? And can a table saw be used?

Answer This Question

A:  I used a 32tpi blade with very good results. Used a basic plastic handle such as the Stanley mini hacksaw. Be sure and cut from the face, on the downstroke, to avoid chipping the face. I would not use a table saw unless you have a very fine blade.

A:  Hello and thank you for your interest in our product. The Aspect Matted Subway tiles can be cut using a chop saw (motorized miter saw) is recommended for straight cuts. A jig saw or scroll saw is recommended for non-straight cuts. For circular cuts, a hole saw works well. All cutting blades must be fine-toothed “metal cutting” type (60 tooth blade). When cutting is complete, use a fine-grit sandpaper or a small metal file to debur the cut edges. Take the cut tile to the work space and place it in its intended location and make sure it fits properly. Another cutting method is to use a router. Using a table saw is also an option as long as the blade is 60 tooth or more and sharp. Q:Can they be applied over existing tile (4 1/2 x 4 1/2 ceramic tile on kitchen backsplash)?

    Answer This Question

A:  These things will stick to any clean surface, but of course will look best when applied to a flat wall surface with no existing tiles.

    by|May 3, 2023

A:  It could be done, but make sure the existing tile is extremely clean, no grease residue or soap film which will adversely affect adhesion. Make sure the existing tile is firmly adhered to the wall and that there are no high spots that would affect the look of your new finished job. Be very careful with your layout as it is not easy to mark layout lines on a smooth ceramic tile surface. Remember that once applied this product is very difficult to move due to the strong adhesive.

A:  Hello and thank you for your interest in our product. Aspect can be installed over most structurally sound substrates if they are flat, clean, smooth, dry, and free of dust, wax, soap scum and grease. Acceptable substrates are drywall, plaster or clean, smooth tile (glazed, porcelain type tile; not porous or textured), concrete, smooth stucco, wood paneling, mirror, glass, metal, etc,. Any damaged, loose or uneven areas must be repaired, patched and leveled. Fill cracks and irregularities with wallboard compound or spackling, then sand smooth with fine-grade sandpaper. A:  As long as the wall is clean and dry, these tiles have very strong adhesive, so I would think they'd stick ok.

A:  Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We reached out to MFG for more information and below is their response. “ Hello and thank you for your interest in our product. The substrate must be primed with a fresh coat of primer. Consult with your local paint supplier for more information. If installing Aspect over existing ceramic tile, be sure to thoroughly clean old tiles, but priming ceramic tiles is not required. Use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol two-cloth cleaning method as surface preparation when applying tiles to a nonporous substrate, such as ceramic tile or metal. Failure to properly prepare the substrate may invalidate the warranty. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact our customer care team at 800.434.3750. Thank you! "

A:  Hello and thank you for your interest in our product. Yes, this product can be applied to a Corian substrate as long as the surface is smooth, flat, and free of any dirt or grease. We do also recommend using PL Premium by Loctite as an additional adhesive. Please feel free to contact our customer care team at 800.434.3750 for any further questions. Thank you!

A:  I would think these would stick to any clean, dry surface. The adhesive is very strong, so make sure you're putting it where you want it before pressing it into place. Good luck! :)

                  by|May 3, 2023

A:  It should, as the adhesive is very strong, but I have not tried it on this surface.

A:  I can't imagine why there would be a problem installing these behind a gas stove. I don't know that for sure, of course. Unless the tiles are going to be within 2 inches of the actual heat source, I wouldn't think anything would cause a problem. They are made of plastic with the metal finish on top. I have them behind my stove, which is electric, but even gas stoves must have something designed to protect the wall behind it from high heat temps. I think you're good to go! :)

                          by|May 3, 2023

A:  Hello and thank you for your question. Yes, the Metal Matted Subway tiles are ok to use behind a gas stove. The tiles themselves can withstand a heat index of up to 200 degrees (F). We do however recommend that the tiles be at least 3 inches from the direct heat source, and follow the rule of thumb that if the surface where you plan to apply the tiles is too hot to touch, it will more than likely be to hot for the tiles to be applied to. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us at 800.434.3750. Thank you
