Q:Is Behr Drywall plus primer compatible with BEHR ULTRA SCUFF DEFENSE Stain-Blocking Paint and Primer ?
by|Mar 27, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Hi Jeff. Thank you for your question. Yes, our Ultra Scuff Defense Paint can be applied over our Drywall Plus Primer if you use a lower sheen like flat or eggshell. Higher sheens aren't recommended over our Drywall Plus Primer as it may cause the finish to be uneven. So if you plan on painting with a satin or semi-gloss, I recommend priming with something like our Multi-Surface Primer No. 436 instead. Good luck with your project! -Joni

Q:Can this product be used as a primer for a plaster surface and also previously painted surface? I'm using it as a basecoat for a satin sheen of Behr paint on a interior wall.

Answer This Question
A: Hi there, thank you for writing in. While our Drywall Plus Primer can be used over previously painted surfaces, I wouldn't recommend it on plaster due to the higher pH levels typically found in that substrate. Also, the primer isn't recommended for higher sheens such as satin. It would be best to use our pH resistant and high-hide Multi-Surface Primer and Sealer No 436 for your entire project. -Michael

Q:Can this product be used to prime a newly plastered textured (sand swirl) ceiling?
by|Oct 30, 2021

Answer This Question
A: Hi Paula, thank you for writing in. While I wouldn't recommend our Drywall Primer for new plaster, we do have our Multi-Surface Primer and Sealer No 436 that would work well. This is a great product that can resist the higher pH levels typically found in new plaster. You'll also want to ensure the surface is completely dry by taping a 1 sqft. of clear polyethylene plastic film to the ceiling. If water droplets are visible on the underside of the film after 24 hours, the plaster is still too wet to coat. -Michael

A: Hi Lind - Thank you for your questions. Our Drywall Plus Primer & Sealer can be applied over a semi-gloss paint, however, we recommend topcoating this product will low sheens only (like flat, matte, or eggshell). I recommend checking out our Kitchen, Bath & Trim Primer instead which can also be used on top of semi-gloss paint and topcoated with glossier sheens. Best - Sara

A: Hi Nannie, thank you for your question. Yes, you can use flat paint over satin. The surface should be clean and dry. If the Marquee Satin Paint was applied over 30 days ago (has fully cured), we also recommend scuff sanding the surface to promote adhesion before repainting. Have a great day! -Giovanna

Answer This Question
A: Hi JoeBoyk. Thanks for writing in with your question. I'm sorry you weren't able to get the primer tinted. Although our Drywall Plus Primer & Sealer can't be tinted to a regular color like a paint, it can be tinted to a gray or pale version of the color of your topcoat of paint to help the paint cover better. If you have any other questions regarding this, please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team directly. Our team is happy to help you! -Joni
