A:  Hi Maxee, thanks for your question. Yes, you want to sand the surface beforehand to remove splinters and loose wood fibers. You then want to follow by cleaning the surface with Behr's All-In-One Wood Cleaner No. 063; it helps with adhesion and conditions the wood. When the surface is clean and dry, you can coat it with Behr Advanced DeckOver, following the spread rate on the back of the label. Have a great day! -Alex
