A: We do not recommend this be used outdoors as it would get wet.

A: Being that this is a pressed wood, it could be used outdoors but the longevity of the product will be short lived. I would not expect this to last a long time exposed to moisture (rain, high humidity, fog, etc...).

A: As long as you PRIME any chalkboard (rub the entire surface with the side of a piece of chalk and wipe clean), CHALK MARKERS are fine. (They are meant for chalkboards-don't know what that other person is talking about!)

Q:can you prime/stain particle board? specifically, would staining the sides and back of this item with outdoor furniture stain allow it to be used and stored outdoors?

A: Hi naureen,
Yes, you can prime the boards but a primer needs to be topcoated with an exterior rated paint.
As for a stain, it isn't recommended, since the glue in the MDF would not allow for proper allowance for the stain to soak into the surface.
With that said, I would only prime and paint it. It can be used outdoors, but it needs to be exposed to the elements as little as possible.
For example, placing it under a covered porch free from rain and sunlight will help the life of the board.
However, I'd recommend you to use an exterior grade plywood so it can withstand the outdoors better.

A: Using a primer, stain/varnish would help to prevent moisture intrusion that is normally associated with this type of material "breaking down" in an outdoor environment. I would suspect that it would have to be replaced after a while (depending on your outdoor conditions (cold/wet vs. hot/humid)

A: We do not recommend that you stain this or use it outdoors.
