Answer This Question

A:  Yes - i cut them to fit with a stout pair of scissors. Can be cut easily just be mindful they are can bend easily and you will leave seam marks if you handle them roughly. I didn't use staples but used HVAC aluminum tape to ensure tight connections with my drop ceiling rails.

by|Dec 5, 2020

A:  Yes. They are like a very thin plastic. Stapling them in could be a problem when removing. Could damage them

A:  Ceilume's Stratford tiles can only be installed in a standard 1" or 15/16" ceiling grid. They can't be stapled or glued directly to a ceiling.

A:  They are meant to go in a ceiling grid, (Drop Ceiling ) Im afraid if you staple them they will lose its shape or look. It bends very easily as its very thin material.

Q:what is the R rating for insulation?
            by|Oct 11, 2020

            Answer This Question

A:  Ceilume's Stratford Ceiling Tile has an R value of R-.012 and an NRC of .25. Adding Ceilume's Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation to the top of the Stratford brings the R value to R-6 and the NRC to .50. by|Oct 12, 2020

A:  Not sure of the exact R rating. But it can’t be much because they are only a thin o.013in. Thick. The other thing is in a smaller air tight room when opening and closing the door abruptly it would cause the tiles to lift out of place.

              by|Oct 17, 2020

A:  zero to minimal R value.

Q:Are these tiles interlocking? Do you need grids along the sides of the room, and one down the middle?

              Answer This Question

A:  2x4 or 2x2 grid works are the best way to install this ceiling product. for the entire room -- Yes.

              by|Mar 18, 2021

A:  Ceilume's Stratford 2' x 2' Ceiling Panels are made to be installed in a standard 1" or 15/16" wide ceiling grid. They don't interlock, they lay in the ceiling grid where they are supported on all 4 sides so you'll need wall angle around the perimeter of your room and a 2x2 ceiling grid installed throughout the room.

              by|Sep 29, 2020

A:  They are meant to be placed in squares created by the grid of a hung metal ceiling.

                by|Sep 30, 2020

A:  No, you need the drop-ceiling grid. The tiles have a lip that sits on the grid. The number of grids depends on the dimensions of the room. I suppose you could glue them but I’m not sure how that would look given the lip on each tile...you may need to add molding or trim. You could also attach by way of molding instead of the drop ceiling grid. The tiles are easy to cut as they are thin plastic.

                by|Sep 29, 2020

A:  These particular tiles are NOT interlocking

                    Answer This Question

A:  You would need to cut the tile to go around the sprinkler head.

                    by|Sep 29, 2020

A:  Yes, Ceilume's Stratford ceiling tiles are approved for installation beneath sprinkler systems by FM, UL, and IAPMO. How does that work? The ceiling tiles are temperature sensitive: they will lose their rigidity and fall out of the ceiling grid before the activation temperature of the sprinkler heads is reached. The approval documents outline the installation guidelines that must be followed for this installation and its very important that you consult with your local Fire Marshall during the planning stages as each Fire Marshall has the ultimate say in approving an installation in their jurisdiction. Please contact Ceilume at 888-533-1995 to get more information about Drop-Out installations as well as links to all of our approval documents.

                        Answer This Question

A:  I don't see why these tiles couldn't be used on an outdoor porch. They are simply thin plastic with the pattern stamps in providing some rigidity. I am not sure how the metal grid system itself would fair outside but the tiles themselves would have no problem they can even be cleaned with a garden hose.

                        by|Mar 6, 2021

A:  I wouldn't. but it is possible. any light surface will fade and distort after time under sun light. however, if you are to hang outside in a enclosed porch, using a darker than white color, it should be fine if worred about color fading .

A:  Ceilume's Stratford White 2x2 ceiling tile can only be installed in a standard 1" or 15/16" ceiling grid. The Stratford is made from a thin rigid vinyl that is impervious to moisture and will not absorb humidity but their light weight will allow them to shift or blow out of a ceiling grid under heavy wind loads. Since we have not tested the Stratford for exterior installations, we'd hesitate to suggest it for your installation.

A:  You can but you’ll need to keep a traditional fiberboard ceiling tile underneath it to support the can light.

A:  No, the tile is very thin and will not support any weight. You'll need to attach the can to a joist.

                            by|Jul 28, 2020

A:  Yes, first off high hat lighting/ recessed lighting attaches to the joists. The drop ceiling frame also is attached to the joists so the ceiling tiles are set in the drop ceiling frame. We cut a hole in the tiles and the light trim fits right through it. It looks great and is very easy.

A:  The International Building Code requires that all lights, fans, speakers, and any other items placed in a ceiling must be supported by the ceiling grid or the structure above. They should not be supported by the ceiling tiles. HomeDepot.com has a wide variety of can light housings made specifically for ceiling grid installations.
