Q:Can this be used in a 2 inch deep bird bath?

A:  Yes, but that's about the minimum since the pump is attach to the orifice that comes from the top. I thought of using a plastic tube and leaving the pump at the bottom but the whole does not match any I found HD or Lowes.

    A:  I believe they can but I would watch it because it takes water to make it work .and you will ruin your solar battery if there is not enough of water.my bird bath is deep and I have Small gravel in mine so birds want drown.always make sure you keep enough water in your bird bath.

      Q:Can this be used in the winter. I need something to stop the water from freezing the birdbath, but is also solar powered.

      A:  Nope, the solar panel is not sensitive enough in cloudy days to keep the pump running continously except in sunny days. Biggest draw back of this fountain. In my post I did not recommend this product.

        A:  It only pumps when the sun is on it so it wouldn't stop the water from freezing on a cloudy day or at night.
