Q:What's different between drill and Hammer drill

A:  The hammer function on this drill is not the add-value, it's the 1/2" chuck that is the selling point. I've always been disappointed with a drill that has a hammer function. The efficiency is so poor you'll never make money with it. I default to using my rotary hammer every time. But if you're home use and you got the time, and you're patient, then by all means use the hammer function. The drill is noticeably heavier than the 3/8" chuck drill. Feels like it's double the weight.

A:  Hammer Drill: You can drill into concrete; the hammer drill, in addition to drilling, provides a pounding or hammer-type action which allows you to drill into the hard concrete. Regular Drill: If you just need to drill into wood, then use the regular drill, since you don't need the hammering action to drill into this softer material.

A:  A hammer drill pretty much looks like a regular drill, but they sport an additional feature that suits them for heavy-duty tasks. These tools contain a hammer-like mechanism, or hammer clutch, that rapidly pulses forward while the drill bit is rotating.

A:  ... and also ... the hammer mechanism basically makes the drill bit hammer into the material it is drilling, while it is drilling. You want this feature when you are drilling into hard, brittle materials like bricks, concrete, stone, etc. where hammering a hole in might work, but cutting a hole will not. And you use masonry bits rather than regular drill bits.
