Q:My regulator leaks and the compressor never shuts off on its own. Is this normal?
by|Jul 13, 2019

Answer This Question

A:  Not normal to leak I’ve had compressor regulators that leaked before what I’ve found if there left outside in the weather the O rings on knob will crack causing leakage you can buy the kit online or local hardware store carry’s O Rings use a little lithium grease / white grease that won’t deteriate the neoprene rubber. Twisting the knob when temperature is hot then releasing when cold or vise verses or it came defective over tightened and prematurely wore out the seal. Should hear it leaking weakest point is the knob. Taking it apart isn’t too difficult unless just bought you take back to exchange.

A:  Figured it out myself. Regulator was full of trash, water , and rust. Took the back off and cleaned it out. Works great now. Dewalt says not to run the compressor in the vertical position for a reason and that is why.

    Answer This Question

A:  Max is 225 . You can change the regulator but never exceed max pressure to avoid catastrophic failure of compressor, lines, and tank

A:  The D55146 has a max output pressure of 225 PSI.

      by|Aug 19, 2021

A:  Both of the other answers are false according to the product manual. "The regulated pressure range is 7-150 psi"

Q:my D55146 is a type 5. All I can find is info for type 1-4's. And the parts for the regulator repair kit are different for that "type" than what I've seen for the others. Can anyone help me out on this one?

          A:  The D55146 type 5 regulator/manifold part # is: N028208.

A:  If your regulator is leaking I just recommend you take the cover off and remove the plug behind the regulator and clean it out. Be careful because a few small parts will come out like a plug and Spring and o ring. Use a plastic safe cleaner to clean regulator and parts. Put a little oil on the internal parts and reassemble. Should fix the leaks and regulation issues

Q:why can't this be run up right

              Answer This Question

A:  No matter what anyone else says on here, don’t run it in the upright position. You will trash up your regulator and cause it to leak and not regulate properly. This is a poor design by Dewalt and that’s why they stress to only run it while laying flat. If you do trash the regulator just take the cover off and pull the plug from the back of the regulator and clean it out.

A:  We do not recommend operating this unit in the vertical position. Life testing of this unit was done in the horizontal operating position, the vertical position is for storage only. Operating this unit in the vertical position gives condensation the opportunity to enter the pressure switch and regulator/manifold assembly.

A:  DewaltProductExpert please clarify for my why the pictures AND the description of this compressor show/state that it provides 5.0 SCFM @ 90PSI and it is 1.8HP. This is a HUGE discrepancy and easily enough to change my mind about purchasing this product. I await your reply. Thank you.

Q:Why is it that the manual specifies that you use a air hose that is 3/8 of an inch minimum, when he couplers built into the units are 1/4 inch?

                      Answer This Question

A:  Air hose has resistance to the flow of air. The longer the hose, the more resistance. A 1/4 inch fitting is very short and does not affect the air flow very much. A long hose has a lot of resistance and reduces the air flow significantly. A 3/8" or larger air hose allows more air flow over a long distance than a 1/4 inch hose. With a small hose, you may not get enough air flow to operate the tool connected to the air hose.

A:  I have the same make & Model have used it upright for years with no trouble it's a sealed pre lubed compressor with electric motor. Only thing I've notice is laying it down while draining the air pressure before storage is a good idea because the drain valve would be facing downward allowing any extra moisture build up to drain out. Otherwise I haven't had any issue leaving it upright while using.

A:  It will trash your regulator if you run it upright . You can take it apart and clean it but it’s time consuming and tedious. Just run it flat and keep your tank drained after you use it.

A:  No grease points on this product that I've noticed. The right pressure gauge cover blew off and is currently being repaired under warranty. Very disappointing.

A:  No maintenance needed it's a sealed electric motor and air pump only thing to check is the air inlet filter sometimes it gets clogged (use to close to cutting areas) and to make sure to keep moisture out of tank happens when using outdoors release air before storing.
