1 inch on each side overhang??

Answer This Question
A: Hello BeeDee Thank you for your contact. We apologize for any trouble or inconvenience in finding information. The combined depth of a 2x6 over a 2x4 is 8 1/2 inches. The maximum throat depth of the large clamps is 4 1/4 inches. It does not appear that it would be plausible. Best Regards Sherri C DEWALT

A: The answer is NO. Dewalt does not have replacement pads for their clamps but for some reason are reluctant to simply tell you that. There are aftermarket pads available but they get rather pricy if you have to replace pads on multiple clamps.

Q:is there a screw on the smaller, 6 inch, clamps that can be removed to reverse and use as a spreader?

Answer This Question
A: The two larger clamps have push buttons on them to take off the normally fixed side to use as spreaders. The two smaller clamps have a fixed end which can’t be reversed to then use as spreaders.

A: Hello JD
Thank you for your contact. We apologize for any trouble or inconvenience in finding information. The large clamps can be converted into a spreader. The medium clamps do not possess that functionality.

Q:Can anyone tell me the width and height of the black bars on the 2 sizes? I'm asking this because I understand DeWalt does not make clamp stands (one thing I like about Irwin is ability to add these) and I am wondering if I would be able to use Irwin clamp stands on these clamps?

A: Just went out to my truck and measured. The bars on both of them are 3/16" thick. The bar on the larger clamp is 11/16” wide and the smaller clamp is in between a 1/2 and 9/16 wide(17/32nds).

A: The Large: if pulling the clamp to its max, you have about 14" of visible bar, but the entire bar is about 19.5" long, with about 3/4" height and 3/16" wide.
The Small: about 1/2" height, same width as Large, and entire bar is about 11.75" long with under 7.75" of visible bar when fully extended.
Hope that helps.

Q:Why is it that the large is advertised as a 24" and a medium as a 12" but when you buy this pack the medium is a 6" and the Large is a 12". Had to see that on a zoom in on the packaging. How about someone in advertising fix this screw up. :(

A: The package is correct. The clamping throat depth and clamping force determines the denotation of size (small, medium, large, and extra large) . We currently offer Large 6', 12", 24" and 36" clamps. Please contact DEWALT at 1-800-433-9258 for further assistance.

A: The 12" and 6" may be in reference to the height of the clamps. The opening distances are 12" and 24" for the small and large clamps, respectively.

A: I am actually not sure what the 3.75 opening in home depots specs is supposed to mean. The Large clamps open a little over 12 inches and the medium clamps open a little over 6 inches.
by|May 7, 2021
A: No way Tom, The LG clamps open to just under 12".
It would be best to buy the Pipe clamp type you make yourself. The BIG bar clamps tend to bend/warp when clamping. I got 2 old PONY bar clamp kits @ HD for $20, then they cut & thread a 10 foot black pipe (cut in half) for about $15. So far and away there cheaper, and MUCH stronger, but not as easy to use. A single DeWALT 36' bar clamp is $35, vs you get 2 of the pipe type for the same cost.

A: No they are not that large , the large will open to about 12 " to 13" and the medium to about 5" to 6". They do not show it on the web page but I went to the Home Depot in Southhaven Ms and they had 36" & larger in store.

A: it is in inches. measured from the top of the black facing pads to the bar the clamp slides on. read the specs.

A: The 3.75" "opening" is actually the depth of the clamp, so that the pads can reach 3.75" from the edge of the wood you are clamping before the bar hits the wood.

A: I have both Irwin and Dewalt. I like both but the advantage of the Dewalt is that they easily reverse into push clamps.

A: These clamps are as good if not better than the Irwins. I have some Irwing quick clamps and use these dewalts and the Irwin interchangeably. They are both strong clamps that come in a veriety of different lengths and handle sizes for more clamping pressure.

A: first of all irwin clamps are junk, and weak, after a while they won't even release, I have a lot of them, they are good at first, then they start acting up, I bought a set of these dewalt here, and could tell the difference in strength right away, but, the ends on the two larger ones are cracked, I used epoxy on one to see if it holds, find out today I guess, I guess I have to check into how the warranty works, but I like them, and I use them a lot.

A: The Clamps are much stronger than Irwin; The larger clamps have a bigger clamping footprint than the Irwin clamps. Note Dewalt clamps are also reversible to apply a spreading force. The large clamps open 12.25" and the smaller clamps open 6.125".
