Q:CP-22 Pump stopped working 1st occurance, flooded the lower level area, $6,100 in water damage. CP-22 Pump stopped working 2nd occurance, flooded the lower level area, all drywall has to be removed, purchase new carpet another $5,000 in water damage. My insurance company will not pay for a 3rd occurance. 4 calls to AC repair company and now, it has stopped working a 3rd time. Advertisement refers to a safety switch? I may have cured some flooding, by placing a $1.95 aluminum turkey pan I have a 4th pump on order to arrive by 9/24/2018. any suggestion will be appreciated. Bob

A:  That would depend on what type of water. If it is condensate from an AC unit I would look to the condensate pump, but if it is sewage or ground water the approach would be different.

A:  Water normally collects in pump until the float trips the switch to pump it out.

I do not want to go to crawl space everyday and check this, I am not sure even if it has an autostart?

A:  There is a cheap/battery operated water alarm device that will do the job. (Very loud squeal when the sensor detects water. Home Depot $15.)

A:  If this pump fails to turn on, and the air conditioner continues to run, than the pump chamber will fill with water and overflow. However this pump is equipped with an optional safety switch. If your AC unit is designed to work with a safety switch than your can wire them together. Then if the pump fails the safety switch will shut off the AC unit. Not a ll AC equipment is built to take advantage of this option. Consult the AC units installation manual.

A:  I can see no reason why it would not work. The Diversitech pump would have to run more often to keep the reservoir pumped out.

A:  This unit, like most condensate pumps, has multiple ports. If you want to plumb one appliance into one port; and then plumb another appliance into one of the others ports, that does not not present a problem in and of itself. What i can;t tell you is if the unit has the capacity to service both.

However we periodically get them back because of shipping damage. I would think we would have one here that we might be able to pull the part off of and send to you. Give me a call and we can discuss. Chris 978 651 3301

A:  The outside diameter of the outlet nipple is 1/4". Which would correspond to the 1/4" inside diameter of what is often referred to as 3/8" vinyl tube. It is called 3/8" because of its outside diameter. Don't alarmed if you find this confusing, I have been a plumber for 40 years and I still get confused. Plumbers refer to pipe and tube by its ID inside diameter where as HVAC people speak in terms of OD outside diameter. So what I call 1/2 copper tube they would refer to as 5/8 tube. Same pipe just but two different names, Thus I find it always a good practice to confirm we we are referring to OD or ID

A:  There are two floats in this unit. One is to turn the pump on and off when needed. Then if there is a second float slightly higher that will turn on the alarm if the tank fails to empty when the first float is actuated. This second float does not need to be reset. It would reset when the thank is emptied. If you red alarm light is still on that could mean a number of things, Assuming the tank is empty the most likely is the float is stuck in the on position. I could also mean the tank is full again but the pump is not working; maybe because the tube is kinked or plugged. But there is nothing you need to do to reset the alarm.

A:  If you see the red light flashing is because you have the tank full of water. It could be a problem with the float switch.

A:  It either works or it fails. If it fails you clean up the mess. Mine lasted 4 years before failure. I think I am going to treat this unit as "expendable" and replace it every now and then.

                                          by|May 6, 2023

A:  First not all AC units are built to utilize the safety switch function offered with this condensate pump. If your AC unit did have this option and if your contractor took advantage of it, there would most likely be, in addition to the power wires, wires going from the condensate pump back to the air handler control circuitry. Obviously I can not see your unit and have no idea what strategy you contractor utilized. But in my experience there are typically to low voltage wires going from the condensate pump back to the appropriate terminal on the air handler so that that when the high level float is actuated it lets the air handler no there is a problem.
