A:  I use a vise+sawzall, 3? air powered cufoff wheel for small cuts, and high speed air saw for inside corners. There are circular saw ferrous metal blades - table, slide, arm saw are better than a hand held. Clamp the work down.

      Answer This Question

A:  The Plain Sheet Metal can be spray painted. Please make sure to properly prepare the surface before painting.

      by|Jan 8, 2020

A:  Yes, I would recommend cleaning it first with Rubbing Alcohol to remove any oils, then use primer and finally paint.

        by|Oct 13, 2020

A:  I used a primer first before painting. No rust from the weather so far.

A:  This material is lightly oiled to prevent it rusting in the store. I would recommend cleaning it with a good degreaser (acetone) and scuffing it with steel wool or sandpaper afterward before painting it. I'd be inclined to use paint like the Rustoleum line of products to keep it rust-free I actually bedded my sample into a patch on the floor with epoxy and I took similar precautions. Since the patch was indoor and covered by laminated flooring rust wasn't much of an issue. If you are making it into reinforcements for something like a planter box that would be expected to get wet I think I'd definitely take the recommended precautions. The material is mild steel and not stainless.

A:  It is mild steel and has a light coating of oil to prevent it rusting in the store. Use acetone or similar degreaser and scuff with steel wool or fine sandpaper. The finish is good as is so use a wet-dry sandpaper. Use a rust-inhibiting paint Rustoleum or equal.

A:  No. You need Stainless for food safety.

A:  No, it's not. This is plain steel, not food grade stainless.

                by|Dec 17, 2019

A:  If you care for this it should be fine food. It is not galvanized, therefore no lead or zinc. Wash it well, the slight coating on it may not be edible. It WILL rust so it needs to be coated with a mineral, food safe oil, to try to keep it from rusting when not in use with food. Cooking oil may go rancid and mold if you were to use that. Take the sharp edges and corners off, sand or use a deburring tool.

A:  Weldable steel doesn?t emit any harmful fumes when heated, it?s a necessary attribute. The grill should steel for this to be useful. If it?s a ?cast aluminum? grill it will cause dissimilar metal corrosion, use aluminum instead, multiple layers if needed

A:  The largest plain steel sheet metal we have is 24x24 (Part# 800627). If you want to stay with 6 inch 22-gauge steel, it is available in a 24-inch length, SKU 325-027 (Part# 800597). If Zinc plated will work we have a 24x48 (Part# 800567).

A:  First you must sand off the existing rust. Then you can paint it or if you want to maintain the natural metal look, clear coat it. Remember this is raw steel sheet, it will rust due to humidity and oxygen in the air if left unprotected. Surprising that it took months to start showing rather than days.

A:  Since this is plain steel, you would need to prepare and seal the metal to prevent rust.

A:  This product is plain un-coated steel. It will rust unless it is painted. You could sand the rust off and paint it with a clear spray paint if you want the plain steel look.

A:  Yes either spray it with to preserve it or you can lightly sand it and clear coat it with a spray paint clear coat . That should help .

Q:On the 12" X 12" alum sheet metal squares, SO many customers were asking about using them as BACK SPLASH's behind the stove, sink, all over their kitchen, but no one would say HOW or WHAT they USED or WOULD use to affix to the drywall. Well, one did mention use "decorative "nails/screws". That would cost a small FORTUNE to buy THAT MANY decorative screws!!! But, WOULD be attractive. Would GORILLA GLUE WORK?? Or if anyone has ANY suggestions, I'd REALLY appreciate them!!! Thank you!!!

A:  Gorilla GLue would be overkill, IMHO. Also if you wanted to take one off later, it would remove the top layer of the (I assume) painted sheetrock. I would suggest using Contact Cement instead. You could even try Rubber Cement; I think both would allow removal later without destroying the wallboard. There are also some RTV Silicone adhesives that might work. Liquid Nails is probably as bad as Gorilla Glue.

A:  A construction adhesive can be used. Visit your local Home Depot and consult a paint associate for recommended options.

A:  Use a panel adhesive to attach them to a wall of sheet rock, or cement board. Remember these sheets are not anodized, so they will have a tendency to corrode if not tended too often. Not the best product for back splashes.
