A:  The 3-1/2 in. Chrome 5/8 in. Radius Security Door Hinges Value Pack (3-Pack) can be used to replace old hinges, as well as on new doors. Depending on the age of the old hinge, the hole pattern could be different and may require drilling new holes.

A:  Not sure how old your doors are. We replaced hinges on all the doors throughout the house 3 years ago. At the time our house was 11 years old.

Q:How do you remove the hinge pin? I bought a set of these yesterday and for the life of me I can't remove the pin. That is usually an easy job but not on these hinges.

          Answer This Question

A:  I did not remove the pins. I was replacing old hinges. I Installed the hinges on the door first. Then I shimmed the door close to position on the frame. By tipping the door slightly I was able to install the top screw on the top hinge. The bottom will be a little more difficult since can swing in two directions - you could adjust your shims or hold the door in place. Use a manual screw driver and place the screws in your predrilled holes. If not you will wish you had more hands. Pulling the pins prior to installation will require the side of the hinge with the four holes be securely attached to really heavy vice or screwed to a very solid work bench. then a nail screw drivee etc can be used to start the pin removal process

A:  To remove the pin you will need to have the hinge open. You can then use a hinge pin punch to remove the pin.

A:  Remove the bottom plug using vice grips and hammer. Hinges in the vice would help. Twist it and tap it and it will come out. Once the bottom plug removed, use a punch, long nail to push out the pin, clean it, lubricate it, and reinsert it.

A:  You should pop the cap off the hinge pin, remove the pin and put it in upside down. Don’t forget to put the cap back on. Now you can use the hinge the other way. I had this problem on one of my doors and found a YouTube video. I used a pair of channel locks to pop the cap off

A:  The door hinges are steel material with a satin brass finish. They will eventually rust in a moist and humid environment.

Q:Will these change color or blacken/tarnish over time or is the finish made to last? Have some original Stanley brass hinges that were installed when house was built ~1999. Those hinges were terrible and have blackened/tarnished and almost looked rusty. These Everbilt are much shiner and match our door handle hardware. The Stanley's looked more like a dull satin brass....

A:  The finish should not change or tarnish in regular, room temperature conditions that are not exposed to moisture or moist air. For example, the finish will not last as long in a full bathroom.
