Q:What is the difference between induction/radiant and induction only?

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry, researcher. Our cooktops are either radiant, or induction type (not both), which simply defines how they heat. Cooking with radiant heat is a more physical process. From the burners to the food it requires heat transfer between every component. Radiant cooktops heat by passing electricity through heating elements below the smooth ceramic top. This is the traditional process for heating and cooking food that most of us are accustomed to. Induction cooktop operation works in two steps. First the copper coils or burners are induced to generate an electromagnetic field. This field does not get hot. Simply put the coils "excite" the pot, causing it to heat. This phase is very similar to microwave operation. Phase two involves the pan itself. The coils below the ceramic top transmit their energy into the pan causing it to heat. So the cookware and the food are the only things heating up. I hope this answered your question.

A:  They shouldn't have put those two terms together. The cooktop is induction only. The oven is conventional electric heat or radiant.

A:  Hi, bigbuc! As long as it is magnetic, you can use it. However, cast iron tends to scratch easily, so I would recommend using it with extreme caution. ~ Brandi

A:  All induction ranges require pots and pans that are "magnetic," meaning that a magnet will stick to the bottom. So, no aluminum pots or pans. No copper. Cast iron, plain or enameled, is fine. Some types of stainless steel (the magnetic types only) are fine.
