Q:My dehumidifier is set at 50 and the humidity shows 60 on the display. It does not turn on automatically. If I repower the unit it will start and then turn off again after a couple of hours. I have to restart again to make it work. Any suggestions?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi there - Thanks for reaching out to us! Once you set a level and the dehumidifier begins working it will show the actual humidity level. This means that it is not changing the set level but rather displaying the current humidity level. As the humidity in the room is removed the number will go down. For best results, place your dehumidifier near the center of the area that you wish to dehumidify. Good air circulation within an enclosed area is essential. Doors and windows should be kept closed. You should allow at least 18 inches of air space on all sides of the unit for good air circulation. Also, to properly size a dehumidifier, the location of the unit is important. The following link provides a recommended selection guide based on the type of room and moisture level: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=16791. Q:I purchased this unit 1 year ago and want to get another one but I don’t like the amount of heat it throws out. Any suggestions

          Answer This Question

A:  I honesty haven’t noticed any heat impact to my basement from this product. I would go with something smaller. The heat is needed to remove ice from the coils, part of the process of dehumidification

          by|Sep 8, 2020

A:  Not sure,, BUT the dispensing of Heat is several things. This is how the Dehumidifier is supposed to work. It will dispense both warm and cool air as it functions during the day. Otherwise the "humidity" will not be reduced as both needed and expected. If your conditions are correct, room(s) will become both cooler and more comfortable over time and Unit will function less often. A/C Unit may also work less.

A:  Hello Tina - Thank you for reaching out about your dehumidifier. We hope it has worked well for you over the last year. Model APER50LZ is our newest unit. However, dehumidifiers use a compressor to function properly which will generate some heat. If the unit is installed correctly to exhaust outside, the heat should not be an issue. Feel free to reach out with any more questions as we are always happy to help. - JB

A:  Hello Paul, thank you for your question! The pump will turn on automatically when the tank is full if the feature is activated first. To do this, press and hold the "Pump" button for 3 seconds. This cycle will continue to pump until the button is deactivated. If you would like to read more about this feature, we recommend you check out page 6 of the owner's manual, linked here: https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/28/285f7aa9-e95b-4e36-bb64-c10518b83fcc.pdf We hope this helps! Q:Does this unit have automatic restart after a power outage?

                  Answer This Question

A:  For at least reasonable outages yes. Mine comes back on set however it was beforehand. I've had the power out here for over an hour, and it restarted on its own. If it's off for a long time I don't know; that is, I don't know if there is a capacitor that is holding up the "memory" of where its set and will eventually discharge, or how that's arranged. The keys are all "soft touch" so it definitely is not physical switches.
