A:  Hi Seasider - The drain pump can pump up to 16 vertical feet. For proper operation, do not use a longer length of tubing than the 16 ft provided. It is ¼" OD plastic tubing. A:  What do you have it set at? How long have you let it run for? Also these devices do in a little part operate like AC, but not exactly. Please consult the manual and if not contact GE support.

A:  Hi Grandma - Thanks for reaching out to us regarding your new GE Dehumidifier. You should generally feel warm air coming from under or behind the dehumidifier. This is normal and part of the dehumidification process as long as the unit is drawing moisture from the air. When the unit is dehumidifying, the compressor is generating heat as it operates. In order to avoid having the compressor overheat, air is drawn by the compressor at a rapid rate and exhausted from the unit. The warm air will stop shortly after the unit has reached the desired humidity. When running in defrost or fan mode, the air will be room temperature or slightly below since the air is heating up the cold or frozen coils. A:  You might want to verify the specs HD has verses manufacturer's. Could be a typo. You could also contact GE.

A:  Hi Les - Thanks for viewing GE! New DOE testing regulations have had an effect on pint sizes. These standards more accurately reflect realistic room conditions, as a result, it is especially important to select a dehumidifier based on the room conditions rather than the pint sizes or square footage. This unit is recommended for wet conditions, 80% RH and above. Both can be used in 1500 sq.ft. room. Keep in touch! Sue

A:  Hi PA - Thanks for considering GE Model # APEL45LY! Approximate Product Dimensions are (WxHxD) 14 3/4 in x 24 in x 11 3/8 in. Allow at least 18" of air space on all sides of the unit for good air circulation. A dehumidifier works in a very similar manner to an air conditioner. The unit draws air across a set of refrigerated, dehumidifying coils called a condenser. Moisture in the warm air collects and condenses on the cooled, condenser coils and drains down into a bucket (or through a hose and drain). Dry, clean air is drawn through the condenser where it is heated and discharged out the top grille into the room. It is normal for the surrounding air to become slightly warmer as the dehumidifier operates. A:  The answer by the GE rep is duplicitous and misleading. Yes, the pump will turn on IF (that's a big IF) the pump was activated by at the time of the power outage. If it wasn't activated then it won't turn on automatically when needed. So, it the power goes off in my home which is 700 miles away the pump will not activate unless someone presses the 'pump button'. Other brands have pumps that will activate automatically at the time the dehumidifier is automatically activated. No thanks, GE!!!!!!!!!

A:  Hi AlanMcD - In the case of a power outage or interruption, the unit will automatically restart, in the settings last used, after the power is restored. If the pump was activated before the power failure, it will resume after the power is restored. Thanks for considering GE! Keep in touch. Sue

A:  I have had power go off for a short period of time (5 minutes or so) and when it came back on the unit restarted on its own at the previous setting. I do not know if it will do so if the power is off for a prolonged period, but for short outages, yes.
