A:  Thank you for the question. Uncured sealant can be cleaned up with a solvent-dampened (mineral spirits or isopropyl alcohol) clean rag. However, if the sealant is cured, it can be extremely difficult to remove without damaging the surfaces. Cured silicone is chemical resistant and may be carefully cut away with a sharp-edged tool. It may also require abrasion or other mechanical means for removal. Always test solvent products on hidden areas of the surface to ensure discoloration will not occur. If discoloration does occur, contact the manufacturer of the surface for further assistance. See your local Home Depot store associate for assistance. For more information on removal, you can visit our website at https://gesealants.com/ and review the FAQs link.

A:  Mineral spirits is recommended to clean up uncured material. Cured material will typically need to be cut, scraped or chipped away using a utility knife, putty knife or painter's multi-tool.

Q:Since this says water ready in 30 min does it really not need any additional curing time? I know typically when I've had my bathtub re-caulked I've had to wait 24 hrs to use it. Thanks!

A:  Thank you for the question. Exposure to water may be possible in as little as 30 minutes with a maximum bead size of 3/16,″ minimum temperature of 65° F, and minimum humidity of 50 percent. Otherwise, caulk should not be exposed to water for eight hours. It's also important to properly fill and seal the seam, cavity or joint when applying this product.

      by|Mar 31, 2023

A:  It is water ready but I have always allowed more time just in case. Weather and temperature are a variance that makes me allow extra time. Better to error on the plus side as it is enough work to something once.

A:  Thank you for the question. GE Advanced Silicone 2 Kitchen and Bath Sealant is not a paintable sealant. If you want to paint the sealant you would need to consider using GE Paintable Silicone Supreme Kitchen and Bath Sealant.

A:  I have done this in the past, cleaning out anything that's loose and being sure any dust or dirt is cleaned off prior to applying.

          by|Mar 17, 2021

A:  Thank you for the question. Applying the silicone over to the previously applied silicone is possible assuming the original is not old and is clean, understanding it’s not necessary or practical and may not meet your expectations.

A:  Yes but it might not "stick" to it.

Q:Is this sealant safe to use on a plastic bucket which is used to grow vegetables? I would like to use this to fill in some of the drilled holes in the bucket so that I can repurpose it as a self watering bucket but I want to make sure it won’t leach any bad chemicals into the soil.

A:  I would not recommend this or any other caulk for your application because they are not designed for continuous wet environment. My suggestion is that you buy FlexSeal tape or sealer for your application. These products are sold at HD. They can tolerate continuous wet environment and not leach anything after fully cured.

A:  Tara, I hope I understand your question. It seems as if you are wanting to plug the holes in the bucket. If that is correct, I recommend Flex Seal, Model #: FSBLKMINI, from the Home Depot Store. This will ensure you get a good seal without leaking and causing any environmental damage.I hope this is what you are wanting to do. Good luck!

              Answer This Question

A:  This silicone is unsanded. And why wouldn't you use grout to fix grout? Once you use silicone for a repair, nothing will stick to it for eventual future repairs, even if you scrub the heck out of it.

              by|Dec 15, 2020

A:  The GE advanced silicone contains no sand, it is pure silicone and yes it can be used to fill and seal small cracks in shower floor grout.

              by|Dec 21, 2020

A:  It's unsanded. As far as I know, the best way to repair shower floor grout would be to use the same grout/compound as the original, otherwise it may not be as waterproof as you'd like plus it could look goofy.

              by|Dec 14, 2020

A:  It's clear silicon. No "sand"

                A:  Smooth / unsanded.

A:  i would not put silicon under tile. it will hinder the bonding of the tile and grout. you can use it to seal the grout line at the tub after tiling.

                Answer This Question

A:  There are 2 ways to caulk large gaps: Do 2 lay-ups of caulk and maybe a 3rd. or fill most of the gap with foam backer rod first. https://www.homedepot.com/p/M-D-Building-Products-3-8-in-x-240-in-Backer-Rod-71464/202837935?MERCH=REC-_-searchViewed-_-100078928;302949855;100663319;206046691;206046711;100122579;306283455;100097524;205030350;205030293;306283633;206034500;205030351;202518791;100658164;100634331;100205533;100035980;306283502;306272827;301531804;203887572;306283429;302949884;-_-202837935-_-N You want the rod slightly larger than the gap. (3/8 is perfect for 1/4 inch) Using a 5-in-1 tool or the like, poke the rod in far enough to be able to apply a normal bead in front of it. For Silicone, wipe, shape, and clean-up your bead work with Denatured Alcohol - for Latex, Water will do. Pumping gobs of caulk into a stubborn gap only wastes money and makes removal the next time a real chore.

A:  Yes after you apply it then, take your finger and smooth down by running your finger down the seam of whatever you are dealing. Trust me, this method seals any gaps and insures a smooth bead of silicone.

A:  Yes you could in my opinion. If you are not used to caulking, use painter's tape to mask off the desired area where caulk should be. Apply caulk. Smooth it out. Then remove tape. Make sure the caulk as all sealants are expiration date sensitive.
