Q:Can this be used to seal metal heating ducts supplied by a forced hot air furnace?
by|Dec 7, 2022

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. It is possible to use GE All Purpose Silicone 1 Sealant as long as the metal surfaces are clean, dry, and free of any foreign contaminants and the temperature will not exceed 400°F. Keep in mind, during application and cure, surface temperatures should be between 40°F to 100°F, and this product releases acetic acid with a vinegar-like odor during application and curing which may linger several days if running your HVAC system.

Q:Hi. Can this silicone be used in hot steam or boiling water application?
by|Dec 7, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. GE All Purpose Silicone 1 Sealant - Clear has a service temperature rating of -60°F to +400°F, when fully cured. It is possible to use this product depending on the nature of the project and its purpose. Surfaces, however, must be below 120°F, clean, dry, and sound prior to application and curing of the sealant. This product should not be considered for areas where direct or indirect food contact may occur, or in underwater applications. Because no other details are available about the project, the user is responsible for determining suitable and acceptable results for out-of-scope applications. For more information, please visit www.gesealants.com and review the Technical Data Sheet for the product.

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for your question. It is important that all surfaces be clean and dry prior to using the sealant keeping in mind that this may only be a temporary fix, depending on the nature of your leak.
by|Nov 2, 2022
A: The sealant should be applied to clean dry surfaces. In the case of moisture dripping on the inside of an attic wall the leak should be corrected on the outside roofing or siding.

Q:I would like to use it for my radon sump pit lid and im not sure if there is a certain silicone i should be using.

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. The successful use of a silicone sealant for a radon sump pit lid will depend upon what the lid composition is and what you are sealing it to. For example, if it is metal and you are sealing to a concrete floor, we would not recommend GE All Purpose Silicone1 but instead, recommend using GE Advanced Silicone 2 Window & Door or GE Advanced Silicone 2 Kitchen and Bath. However, if the lid is made of plastic and the composition is polypropylene, then none of the GE silicones will work well. Perhaps if we know more information, we could better guide you.

A: Thank you for the question. GE All Purpose Silicone 1 Sealant does have a vinegar like odor that can be strong when using this product. The product releases acetic acid during the application and cure. Odors will eventually dissipate after full cure, providing there is plenty of fresh air ventilation otherwise odors may linger longer than expected.
