A: check to see if one of the rings from the last filter is still in there
A: I have no problem with the filter I change mine every three months in my area we have a high magnesium in the water by using the filter it's saving my heating system and washing machine
A: silicone grease (foodgrade) should help, place in the channel that holds the o-ring can rub a bit around the threads also but it can get messy
A: I just make sure the o-ring is not stretched out and I put thin coating of grease on the o-ring also. I also replace the o-ring if necessary.
A: Hey there – We’re sorry to hear that your filter is leaking after installation. This is certainly not the experience we want for you. A: I never had to take off the black ring! Are you sure that there is not anything else in the groove. That would be in the way…..

A: I don't think so. It is a fairly common filter that I have used for years and still have in use.
A: Hello - Great question! No, there aren't any current plans to discontinue this water filter. Thanks for checking. Let us know if any other questions come up. -Mikayla@GEA
A: It doesn’t say it is anywhere in the literature. It has charcoal and a Very fine woven-looking mesh.
A: No. Plastic top and bottom with what appears paper/cellulose filter.
A: No, it’s a fiber filter
A: No, it's paper with carbon in one of the layers. High flow and lasts for about 6 months.
A: Hi! Thanks for taking the time to ask. No, the top and bottom portions of this filter are plastic and the middle would be the filter material. Hope this helps! All the best. -Michael@GEA
A: Yes,and will Taste better
A: A whole house filter (cartridge filter) will reduced heavy particulate (i.e. iron, lead, copper, zinc), but will not remove entirely. RO (reverse osmosis) will eliminate 97% + off contaminates. That having been said, if you are on a well, a whole house cartridge filter is the first step for sure.
A: Hi! Thanks for asking, we can understand wanting to check. This filter helps to reduce Chlorine taste and odor in your water and also filters particulates down to 25 microns. It does not filter out Lead or Copper. Currently, none of our Whole Home Filtration filters filter out Copper or Lead. Our Reverse Osmosis Filtration System's filters help to reduce Lead and Copper though. Those filter numbers are: FX12P and FQROPF. These filters can only be used with a Reverse Osmosis Filtration System. We do hope this helps. All the best. -Michael@GEA
A: It all depends on the concentration of copper And lead in the water
A: Yes, the ones I have purchased all contained an O-ring. Be sure to check the box though. I have seen some boxes that have been restocked might be missing the O-ring.
A: Yes
A: I don't believe that it does.
A: yes, every time an O ring is included.
A: Each replacement filter comes with 2 thick black washers (top and bottom). It does not come with a black O-ring that goes on top of the filter cannister which holds the filter and screws on the housing. Those stretch out over time and I have had to use silicon to keep them lubed up and in place in the grove they sit in. They can be purchased separately.
A: Thanks so much for your great question! We're happy to assist you with this. Yes, an O-ring will be included. When replacing the filters on GE Appliance filtration systems it may be necessary to use a lubricant. Any food-grade vegetable oil or food-grade silicone grease can be used to lubricate the O-ring. No petroleum products can be used. We truly hope this helps! -Chris@GEA
A: no, this filter is for inserting into tank on filtration system for external water lines coming into your home. drop in filter only.
A: The best filter is the FXHTC because it filters with carbon just like the high priced water softener / filtering systems. With all the sediment and potential harmful contaminants in the water you want to use the best filter in your home. Yeah it’s extra bucks but your health is worth it.
A: Hi there - Great question, we're happy to help! For best filtration results, filter FXHTC or FXHSC should be replaced every three months. The FXHTC is a carbon filter surrounded by a protective wrap. The FXHSC is a pleated paper cartridge, which can contain cellulose. If there is a concern about cellulose, you can use the FXHTC cartridge instead. This cartridge will work in the same system. It is made out of melt blown polypropylene and granulated activated carbon. In addition to sediment, the FXHTC will reduce chlorine. We're happy to help anytime you need us! - Sharon@GEA
