Q:These will be used to fasten Teak. Do I need to counterbore for the head?

A: Trim head screws? I wouldn't think so. But depending on how old (brittle) the teak is, you may want to "bump" the hole with a drill bit anyway just to make sure you don't get splinters.

A: Nope

A: Assuming your teak is 3/4 inch thick I would recommend another GRK screw, the GRK RT Composite Trim Head Screw, 8 x 2 inches for this application. It has two sets of threads so it will probably never pop out down the road. No need to counter bore the teak, it will snug down into the teak very well and the GRK scews are such a small diameter they will not split the teak either. GRK is the best thing since sliced bread in my opinion. Been using them for 6 years now.

A: I used these on a softer wood, but no, the head sunk flush without the need to counter bore. I think these will work great with teak if you must use screws, these do have the small finish head.

A: i don't think it well but you can try it and let me no.
by|Jun 19, 2021
A: Maybe, if you carefully pre drill the metal a with a drill diameter that's slightly smaller than the screw shank in might work. Plan it carefully and possible try a test run on some scrap material.
by|Jun 17, 2021
A: I’m sure it could drill through typical metal studs depending on the stud thickness. But I suggest you use wood studs for the jamb around the door rough opening to provide a better means of anchoring and trimming the door. That’s what we do.

Q:Can I use this for floor molding and trim? If so, will I need to pre drill?
Doing floor molding with an hammer is a pain! Most of the time you need to pre drill for the nail and even then the nail will bend and you will have to try again. So, the handyman homeowner like me are looking for a better way to do molding and trim without having to buy an expenses nail gun, and all of the accessories that will run into the hundreds and in some cases the thousands of dollars?

A: Hi Chief....Yes it will work great with no drilling. Just one item you need to remember, The length of the threads on the screw. If you buy the screws pay attention to the amount of non-existent threads on the screw. If the screws are not the right length you won't have any material for it to grab to.

A: I would highly suggest that you pre-drill when using this on base and trim moulding. Make sure the fasteners are long enough for your specific application. Each box of fasteners contains a driving bit specific for that screw. I think you will like using this product not only for this application but for others as well. I highly recommend it.

Q:Can these be used with the kreg deck jig system?

Answer This Question
A: Possibly, but they’re not made fo exterior applications. I would use the Kreg screws
by|Jun 15, 2020
A: The answer is that they should not be used with the Craig system because you need the wide head on the Craig screws to make sure your joints are tight. The smaller head on these finish screws will push on through your holes made with the Craig drill bit.

A: I don’t think these are the best choice, although they might hold. I use a cabinet installation screw with a larger head. Then if appropriate, a vinyl trim cap on the head of the screw.

A: They'll hold just fine, but a better choice would be a GRK cabinet crew, it has a larger head.

A: If the cabinet has a solid plywood back these screws may hold up. Typically only custom made cabinets have solid plywood backs these days not ones that are purchased through a distributor or at a home center. Cabinets should be hung with truss head screws. They have a large head that looks like an integrated washer build into the head. I think your concern is well placed and you should seek a remedy for the long term. Truss head screws can be readily found at any fastener store or most home centers or hardware stores. Home depot stocks a truss head screw in many sizes and also have some painted to match your cabinet color. one item is

A: You probably could use these as cabinet to cabinet fasteners (I would never use them. They’re trim screws). But, definitely NOT to attach/hang the upper cabinets to the wall. For that you need much longer and coarser thread cabinet screws. They also have a much larger head and a washer to prevent the cabinet from pulling off the wall. And, cabinet screws MUST be driven into the wall studs.
