          Answer This Question

A:  Use anything that will fit into the original container and pour out. A squeegee is needed to properly spread the sealant across the previously cleaned asphalt surface.

          by|May 4, 2023

A:  No this is not that type of product. This is a blacktop coating for spreading over the surface.

A:  This will cover approximately 325 to 350 sq ft. It is a sealer, and not designed to mix old asphalt back into it. It is to be used on it's own. If you have areas that need repair, address those areas prior to sealcoating. Thanks and good luck with your project.

A:  These asphalt sealants are self leveling, as most liquids are. It doesn't necessarily run down hill, but it also can only go on so thick as a roller applicator or brush and squeege can leave it. It's generally a rubberized coating and the old surface merely needs sealing against water penetration and loss of oils and bonding agents in the asphalt. If the surface is a driveway and plowed in winter, a rubberized coating is going to be disturbed by the hard scraping of the surface. Rule of thumb is to reapply every 2 years to continue the protection. Personally, I would use the 'filler' sealers. They have more 'body' and give a better effect on the more worn surfaces and help better with the cracks, although there are also 'crack fillers' available that help better with sealing the larger cracks that would be just drains for the regular surface sealing products. As with paints, asphalt sealers, in relation to price, hold different properties to their formulas. Generally, we get what we pay for. Read reviews for that to always be true. If one coat isn't satisfying in 'appearance', give it a second coat. If one coat looks great, leave it and plan on the 2 year schedule which is promoted by the asphalt industry. Second coats will probably only require 2/3 or less of the product as compared to the first coat. 'Preparation' is always key to the better paint and sealing jobs. Clean the surface and cracks out well before application. A cheap coarse brush attached to a pole works well for quickly coating all edges before the main coat. It saves against back strain by standing up and there's really no need to be neat about it. Note*; I liked the Latex-ite 2 Gal. Trowel Patch, also at HomeDepot, for cracks, depressions, and broken areas in preparation to the sealing coat. It's easy to work with and not so visible through the top coating, although a large area of such repair is going to appear alot smoother than what's surrounding, but anything is going to look better than an old, ignored, broken and cracked bleached out driveway. Cracks might be what steals most of the time. Some take awhile to let that stuff ooze in there and harden for additional applications. I haven't tried the squeeze bottle of crack filler, but I expect it should be warmed up to aid in getting it out of the bottle through a snipped nozzle. Most of this stuff is thick. Also, latex is latex. Watch the weather OR watch your hard work wash away before curing. As a last resort, for most of us 'Get Er Done!' people, read the instructions for best results.

A:  After properly cleaning the asphalt surface use a disposable container to scoop the product from the original container onto the asphalt surface and then spread using a squeegee.
