Q:Can you demonstrate how to install Gila Window Film on to a somewhat curved window?
by|Jul 3, 2020
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hello Tony and thank you for your inquiry. We do not recommend installation of film on non-rectangular windows. Most non-rectangular windows (curved edges or shapes of special design) are custom cut and scored, causing the likelihood of weak spots and fractures in the film.

Q:can this be used on acrylic windows? if not, what can be used on acrylic windows to block heat?

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry. We do not recommend installing installing Gila films with adhesives to acrylic windows. We suggest trying our adhesive-free vinyl Glare Control Smoke or Privacy Control Black to acrylic. While these films are not in our Heat Control category, they do offer heat control. The Glare Control Smoke has a total solar energy rejection (TSER) of up to 46%, while the Privacy Control Black has a TSER up to 58%.

      Answer This Question

A:  I haven't noticed any affect at all.

      by|Jun 29, 2023

A:  Thank you for your inquiry. This is a film that contains metal and may affect the WiFi from passing through the glass with film. If you are in a home or apartment with WiFi, metalized film on the windows would have no affect on the WiFi inside your home.

Q:at night time if lights are on in the home can you seen inside from the outside?

A:  Whichever side of the window has lights/sun you will be able to see thru from the other side. So when there is sun on the window, you can see the outside view and when the room is lit up at night you can see in from the yard.

A:  Yes, They do a great job of tinting the windows, but I can still see in and out.

                  by|Apr 12, 2020

A:  Yes you can without much problem. During daylight though the film reflects and you cannot see inside from outside.

A:  Yes, you will be able to see inside from the outside if interior lights are on. This will be the case for all GIla Heat Control Window Films.

Q:Which Gila film allows for blocking UV rays but still able to see outside clearly without too much darkness on the window?

                        Answer This Question

A:  I installed the 3 in 1 film and the Titanium film. The Titanium looks like a mirror from the outside. At night you can't see outside because of the reflection. The 3 in 1 provides a very good heat control. From the outside you don't see inside. But at night you can see some outside if there is a light source. Both tyoes of film have great visibility outside during daytime.

A:  For the purpose of blocking UV and keeping the windows as light as possible, we would recommend our Gila Heat Control Light (Item LEG361) as it blocks up to 99% UV rays has a Visible Light Transmission (VLT) of 42%. This particular product you are looking at (Gila 3-in-1) blocks up to 99% UV rays, but will be darker on your glass as it has a VLT of 25%.

Q:I have very old double pain widows (already showing signs of age & moisture)in front of house. Neighbors cut down all of their trees & it’s bright glaring sun all day upstairs in particular( much worse heat wise/glare in the upstairs).Would it look odd to do just the upstairs? Or would I need to do the up & down stairs to have a unified look to front of house? Please eat me know before purchasing. -Pat

A:  This would be your personal preference as far as the appearance of the front of your home. The addition of the 3-in-1 Heat Control Window Film will change the appearance of the windows as it will darken the glass and add some exterior reflectivity.

A:  Yes, I would definitely do all front windows to be unified. I think that would look best and you will be glad you did. It will cut down on the glare/heat from the sun and add privacy too. I'm very happy with this window tint, highly recommend.

Q:There doesn't seem to be a liner on the film I have. If it is really there how do I find it? It can't be seen or felt in any way.

A:  The liner is clear so it can be difficult to find. Remove the liner by attaching two 3" long pieces of transparent tape to the front and back surfaces of a corner of the film so that about 1" of tape is on the film, and the rest is centered and hanging over the pointed corner of the film. Firmly press the two pieces of tape together and quickly pull them apart to separate the clear liner away from the (dry) adhesive side of the film.

A:  I used a piece of scotch tape on either side of the film at one corner as the directions that came with the product recommend. When you pull the pieces of tape away from each other the film and backing (liner) should separate and come apart. You don't want to do this though until you are ready to apply the film to the window. The product should have come with a set of instructions on how to go about applying the film. If it did not, you can contact the manufacturer for help.

A:  One way to find the film is to take two pieces of scotch tape, one on the back, and one on the front, then pull them apart. Works best on a corner.

                                  Answer This Question

A:  The Gila 3-in-1 Heat Control Window film has a visible light transmission (VLT) of approximately 25%. On this scale (0-100%) the lower the number, the darker the film will be. The main benefit of this product compared to our other Gila Heat Control products is that it has lower reflectivity. If you are looking for our lightest VLT in our Heat Control products, our Gila Heat Control Light (Model# LEG361) has a VLT of approximately 42%, but will have slightly higher reflectivity than the 3-in-1 product.

A:  It’s a grayest bronze color. Not dark but not clear. It cuts the glare down and it’s only slightly evident that the glass is tinted. During the day from the outside you barely can see though the glass. At night you can see through it but definitely darker than clear glass.
