Q:Will this product let in enough sun for my plants?
by|Apr 28, 2023

Answer This Question

A:  The most compatible films for sensitive indoor plants are the Gila Heat Control Films, such as this product. These films transmit higher portions of visible light spectrum that plants need for healthy photosynthesis. Darker films such as this product, the Gila Heat Control Black, block too much of that light. Help your plants acclimate to the change in light by adjusting them over a five-day period. On day one, move the plants 1 foot further into the room. On day two, move them another foot. On day three, apply the film. On day four, move the plants a foot closer to the windows. On day five, move them another foot closer.

            Answer This Question

A:  Hi Rick and thank you for your inquiry. No, the Gila Heat Control Titanium product has not changed. The film may appear cloudy after it is applied as the water left behind will create a cloudy/hazy appearance. This should disappear 1-2 weeks after application. It will disappear faster if the glass is exposed to the sun or warm weather.

Q:Can this product be installed on double-pane windows by applying it to the inside pane?

              Answer This Question

A:  We do not recommend using tint on double pane windows. All films absorb a certain percentage of heat. If this added heat absorption gets trapped in between the two panes of glass, it can cause the seal to break, or even worse, the glass to shatter. Mike

Q:What happens if installed on windows older than 40 years? I’m not sure how old my windows are.

                Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in Gila Window Films. Glass that is over 40 years old is somewhat weakened by time itself as well as cleaning, wind blowing dust/dirt onto glass, etc. All of which can lead to micro-scratches in the glass or glass that is thinner than it was initially at the top of the pane. (Glass over time actually flows downward slightly). All of these factors increase the risk of glass breakage from the window film absorption and therefore is not recommended.

A:  Hi Kelli and thank you for your inquiry. The Gila Heat Control Titanium will reduce the heat transmitting through your windows. It will not prevent it from getting hot entirely, but it will help reduce the heat.

A:  1 36x1200 roll if you cut two 17" cuts from the 36" width. This doesn't leave much room for error and I would recommend the 48"x1200" roll to allow room for error

A:  Hello Robin and thank you for your inquiry. For your project, it will require approximately 7 rolls minimum. We also offer this in bulk 100' rolls, which I would recommend needing one of these rolls as an alternative.

A:  Hello Vicki and thank you for your inquiry. Gila Window Films are easy to install. We have complete installation guides and installation videos that we suggest reviewing before installing Gila Window Film. Here are 5 tips we suggest for a successful installation: Read the Application Instructions thoroughly before you begin. These are rolled up within the film, so unroll the film a few feet to find them. Collect all needed tools before you begin. These tools include: Gila Application solution, a rubber squeegee, a utility knife with breakaway blades, low lint cloths or coffee filters, transparent tape, and a single-edge razor blade to clean the glass. Use smaller pieces of "extra" film to practice application before starting your first window. Two people working together make this a very simple project. Apply the application solution generously to keep the glass and the adhesive side of the film wet during the application.

A:  No it is not difficult to install if you have another person to help position the film follow the instructions and take your time so you can ensure there are no bubbles left under the film. The film installation kit with lubricant and tool is very helpful.
