Pull the thermostat display off the base. 2. Remove the old batteries from the back of the thermostat display. 3. Insert the 2 new AAA alkaline batteries. 4. Q:Will this work with baseboard heaters? I need a line voltage system.
          by|Oct 13, 2023

          Answer This Question

A:  Hello there, JOhrt. Thanks for your inquiry. Electric baseboard systems are generally not compatible with Nest Thermostats. They are only compatible if they’re currently controlled by a 24 V thermostat. However, to ensure the full compatibility of your HVAC system, we recommend checking the wire labels and the labels on your system first. You can use the Compatibility Checker tool and verify the full compatibility here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9246656

Q:My heating system has only 2 wires. The compatibility checker from Nest says the thermostat may work without a C-Wire. How is that possible? Where would the power come from without a C wire.

              Answer This Question

A:  Hey there, LGMM. The thermostat uses the voltage from your system’s wires to keep its internal battery charged. If the power from your system is insufficient, the thermostat will run off the batteries for a while before it must turn off completely. But if you repeatedly get low battery messages from your thermostat, or if there’s another power-related message, you may need to check the C wire connection or install a C wire to provide consistent power to your thermostat and prevent the internal batteries from draining. Some systems, including heating-only, cooling-only, zone-controlled, and heat pump systems, require a C wire or the Nest Power Connector. Unlike other wires connected to your thermostat, a C wire doesn’t control heating or cooling functions. It only provides constant power to your thermostat. Go to g.co/nest/cwire for more details.

A:  Hey there, Phil! Thanks for your inquiry. Emergency Heat and Auxiliary Heat are different types of backup heating and operate differently. Emergency Heat must be turned on manually while Nest thermostats can use Auxiliary Heat automatically as needed. This link can help: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9276120
