A: Eased edges are just slightly rounded corners on a square end that help remove any sharp edges prone to chips. Square edges are a perfect right angle. Thank you!

Q:I ordered this today and will be using General Finishes High Performance Satin water based polyurethane and their extender for longer dry time. Is this sanded to 150 like your birch product? GF suggests sanding to 150 or 220 but you know your wood best.

Q:There seems to be 2 styles of BB countertops -1with a skinnier plank and 1with a wider plank. Nowhere in the descriptions does it say this or how to differentiate when looking at the pictures. I have to order as they don't have my length. Suggestions?

A: If I could give zero stars I would, six deliveries all damaged just ridiculous. This order started in December 2021 and continued to be delivered and return damage through March 2022. Just terrible. They all looked like this or worse.

A: Kitch,
All of our itched block slabs are made up of 1.5” thick staves. If the skinnier piece you are talking about is on the edge in the picture, the edge staves can be thinner than 1.5”, due to trimming in production.

A: Zzzz,
Unfortunately we will not have these pieces available for at least the next 60 days. If what you love about the sapele is the variations in color of the raw wood. Choosing a species like FJ Acacia and finishing it in a Mahogany Hardwood Reflections Gel Stain or choosing a thermally modified ash would be beautiful and vary in the colors of natural wood. I will say it is going to be hard to match it exactly, but there a lot of other options that will give you the same rich feel.
Thank you. I hope this helped your project- Hardwood Reflections

Q:What should I use to seal this if I am going to be using it as a countertop in a Home-Office? Mainly for looks, may occasionally have a few boxes or books on it. Also, we love the color shown in the Home Depot ad --- is that stained or unstained?

A: FrequentHomeDepotShopper,
The swatch/up close pictures are raw images of Sapele, very pretty. The lifestyle image or the image that is depicted in the kitchen looks to be finished in a non-shiny maybe satin polyurethane, also very pretty. If you are looking for an easy finish, I would go with a Polyurethane, whatever gloss you prefer. This is going to be a hard protectant layer that will further bring out the grain in your beautiful piece!
Hope this information helped you!-- Hardwood Reflections

A: We just had it installed in our pantry in the new house we are building and it looks beautiful! This has 4 coats of mineral oil on top and bottom.

A: If you’re talking about holes in the plastic wrap. Mine came with several holes in a plastic. I ordered an 8 foot and a 10 foot . They both had holes in the plastic. The 10 foot piece was not Sapele, it was European walnut. I had to send it back. The new piece took almost a month to be delivered. I needed to wait to install them together to make sure they were the same wood. So I was afraid about the holes in my plastic wrap too. They both turned out great. I don’t think you need to worry about a couple small plastic holes. Good luck and enjoy.

A: Yes. These pockets will retain water/dry more often than the surface which does not have pockets and therefore wear/age differently.

Q:I was thinking of using this for a computer desk. Would mineral oil be the best sealer given my situation: I live in a small apartment without access to garage or yard to work in (toxic fumes over several days would be a problem). I'm looking for an amber/satin finish - similar to the photos on this web page. I'd like to complete the project in a few days so I can start using it. I'd like a seal that lasts over time and not reapply coatings every few months.

A: Ed-Don't do mineral oil for a desktop. I like polyurethane. Use a fast-drying poly (30-min) and you should be set with no lingering odor.

A: Mineral oil is not the best option for a non food working surface.
Modern polyurethanes are low odor and dry quickly, they can be applied indoors and will create a good work surface
