                Answer This Question

A:  You must turn the key to the left 1/4 turn (90 degree clockwise). Now the chest is unlocked and you may remove the key. Now you can open and lift the lid. Please contact our Customer Service Dept. at 1-(877)-354-5457 or email lhlpcustomerservice@lhlpinc.com if you have any more questions. We are here to help.

A:  First, the key only turns 1/4 to the right, not the left. I finally figured it out myself what the problem was. The directions say to "push in on the black tabs on the latches". What they SHOULD say is "lift up the black tabs". When I lifted them up, the latches popped open. I turned the key 1/4 turn to the right and the lid lifted without any problem.

Q:Just purchased this safe. Where is the best place to store in? In the basement near the floor--might get flooded. In a basement on a shelf. On the first floor of a house-might have more exposure to fire, but no flooding. In an unheated garage with concrete floor--minimal materials to burn and no flooding, but hot and cold temperatures. It would be equally secure in any of these locations.

                      Answer This Question

A:  I would suggest storing in the house. Even though it is quite heavy, I would store on floor instead of shelf.

                      by|Apr 5, 2023

A:  We recommend to store in normal temperature area and away from high humidity areas. Also due to airtight seal it is recommended that you occasionally open safe and air it out for at least 30 minutes to prevent any build up of moisture inside.

A:  According to the Honeywell website (http://www.honeywellsafes.com/fire-water-safe-chests/waterproof-1-2-hr-ul-fire-letter-size-file-chest_p.aspx), this box weighs 48.7 lbs. That is the empty weight, so it would weigh more once you had paper, etc. in there.
