Q:I need shelving for my game room which primarily Gaming cards in boxes ranging anywhere from 400 count to 5000 count boxes. Currently my collection is what you would call organized chaos. A: Even with the plastic base caps that come with it - it will leave an impression in the carpet over time. It will definitely hold items you describe. You can buy plastic bases used for furniture to help defray the impression they will leave in the carpet

Q:Will one of these shelves support the weight of a 20 gallon tank that is 30 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches?

A: Yes it will support the weight, I would not recommend the item to be on any shelf above the bottom. If you assemble the shelf with the tank in mind you can make the spacing fit the tank as well
