A:  Hello Stefanowitz, This would be something your local waste management would be able to address.

A:  That’s a great question. My detector is only a year old so I haven’t had to deal with disposal yet. When I do, I’ll take it apart, identity the battery and remove it for recycling. I have to believe it won’t be that difficult.

      by|Nov 12, 2018

A:  GOOD QUESTION. That never even crossed my mind. My concerns are, does it work effectively, does it protect my family and is it safe. Regarding disposal, I would suggest you call your local Department of Public Works. They often have special pickups for electronic equiptment. Another possibility is to read the owners manual which probably has instructions as to how to properly dispose of the unit. Finally, give Kidde customer service a call and I'm I'm sure they will instruct you the best way to properly dispose of the unit. If none of the above work, let me know and I'll calle Kidee for you.

A:  Check with your county's recycle facility. I'm sure they either accept the detector and retrieve the battery OR know which facility in your area provides that service.

A:  It can be returned to Home Depot.

A:  Carbon Monoxide Detectors should be mounted in or near bedrooms and living areas. It is recommended that you install a Kidde CO alarm on each level of your home, you can add one to each bedroom just in case one fails, then you have backups. When choosing your installation locations, make sure you can hear the alarm from all sleeping areas. If you install only one CO alarm in your home, install it near bedrooms, not in the basement or furnace room.

A:  These are nice units! They work well, look good, take up little space and can be placed on a desk top, night stand, etc., in addition to wall mounting. If you have two or more bedrooms, it's not a bad idea to place one in each of them for that additional level of protection. I have only one bedroom but use three of these in my small condo. One in the bedroom, one in the kitchen and one in the living room. If you're on a budget, one carefully placed unit should do the trick, as long as it can be heard from all bedrooms or remote areas of your home. CO2 is odorless and difficult to realize when it's there, so the extra protection is probably a good idea. Hope that helps.

A:  One in each bedroom is a good idea for the added level of protection it provides. I have mine on the dresser in my bedroom. No need to wall mount these nice units.

A:  If you have a central heating system, one should be fine. I would place it in the adult bedroom. If you have a fireplace, I would also place one in the near proximity to the fireplace.

A:  You could do that but I don't believe it has a proper mount like a picture frame to do that. If you do that I would suggest that the one on the bookcase be at least a secondary alarm.

A:  This unit does not need to be wall mounted. I have mine on a bookcase and it's even better if it's at eye-level. The tiny green led blinks one per minute to show it's functioning. At eye level it's really easy to see the blink, if you're looking that way.

A:  According to the manual it displays 0 for any reading between 0 and 30 ppm in the last 15 seconds. Above 30 it starts doing 4 beeps every 5 seconds and shows the last level detected. The peak level button shows maximum level detected since last reset between 11 and 999. Time weighted alarm, so it alarms faster for higher levels (60-240 min at 70 ppm, 10-50 min at 150 ppm). Reading on screen is +/- 30%. Levels below 30 will never alarm, although you can see the reading down to 11 when you press the button.

It has to stay at a certain level of carbon monoxide for a certain amount of time before it goes off, hours to minutes depending on the level. In a car, the car can be aired out almost at once and keep the alarm from going off.

Carbon monoxide is relatively very close to room air and mixes well. That being said, the unit can be mounted anywhere between 6 inches from the floor and 12 inches from the ceiling. Eye level is a recommendation so that the display can be seen and monitored easily.

HOWEVER, this is a Carbon Monoxide Alarm, which is why it needs to be mounted higher in the room where it is more likely to detect the accurate levels of DEADLY Carbon Monoxide. This has the added benefit of easily reading the digital display. This alarm can be placed on a table or a counter but if you don't mount it securely, we don't recommend placing it higher than 3 feet. If an alarm falls from a height higher than 3 feet, it may not survive undamaged.

I take mine to our cabin when we go and stay and then bring them back when we leave to protect them from freezing temperatures. There is a separate mounting plate from the main body. You will want to break off a small tab on the back of the body. This tab locks it to the plate. I always buy two for redundant safety and mount them in two different locations. I hope this helps.

It specifically says that you may simply placed them on a table or anywhere that they will be able to protect you. It gives some hints as where not to place them. Of course, they can also be mounted. None of mine are mounted. The one in my bedroom is placed on the night stand.
