A: I used as replacement for old style wood frame storm windows and found the insulation value to be substantially less than the original however the appearance and maintenance prospects are a great improvement over the existing. Something more substantial as a selection would be better if retaining heat is a goal (or conversely to moderate temperature in summer).

A: If your room is air-conditioned or heated, we do not recommend you use a storm window without a prime window. While the storm window helps keep the dirt, weather, and bugs out, it is not intended to insulate a room alone.

Q:Is this a single or double glass window?

Answer This Question
A: Yes, single-glaze, glass is sturdy but very thin, in my experience it does not provide much insulation unless combined with a double glaze window, that it is placed over. I used this to enclose an open porch replacing wood frame windows with much thicker glass that provided superior insulating quality however the wood deteriorated to a point of necessitating replacement and this was a cost-effective option

A: The top and bottom glass inserts are separate from each other. The actual panes of glass are single pane.

A: Order the 36 x 55 and trim if needed..
by|Nov 6, 2020
A: You should be able to use this size window. The 36" by 55" is the nominal (common) size. It is the dimension from nailing flange to nailing flange, and the flange can be scored off about half an inch on each side and 3/4" from the bottom if needed.
