Q:Put it on my driveway last fall and sealed it over. In some places it is starting to come off. When I use my nails I can even make dents in it and scrape off some of it. Why is it not hard? Should I put another layer this summer to prevent falling apart?

Answer This Question

A:  I think this stuff is only good for a year. Winter seems to cause it to spall off. Still, cheaper than redoing the driveway entirely. I took off the loose stuff and just relayered it. Looks like it is good for another year.

A:  This product comes off easily after applying in summer. I have same issue you described. Agree with your comments.

A:  The same thing happened to me. A sealer will not stick to it. Basically this is not a good product. It will look good at first but not last long. Unfortunately for both of us we just threw our money away on this product.

A:  Trowel patch does not dry rock hard. So being able to put you nail into is normal. Adhesion can be do to moisture below the surface. Not uncommon coming out of winter. Yes remove any loose areas and recoat.

A:  Hello: If you mean spreading it out over a large flat area "like paint", maybe 3 ft x 4 ft. If you mean for filling cracks, maybe 20 ft x 20 ft. depending how many cracks you have to fill.

            Answer This Question

A:  We do recommend sealing over trowel patch is it will help with the longevity of the repair. You do not have to seal the entire driveway, just the patches.

A:  I don't think you would have to. You may want to just seal over what you patch so it doesn't stand out.

A:  No. I just did it. I put a little bit more onto some depressions. Let it dry for 48 hours and then used a 4 inch old paint brush to coat just those spots with some of the same sealer I had left over from the job. The spots faded & blended in (in 2 weeks)

                    Answer This Question

A:  Yes if the depression is shallow. The manufacturer only recommends 2 coats of no more than 1/2 inch per coat. I just filled in a depressed area where water puddles in my driveway. It worked great.

A:  I'd got with cold patch to fill in depressions in the driveway. Fill in the depression-tamp it down and if necessary, heat it a little to smooth it out.

A:  You can use WD40 and a rag. Do it before it gets drys and gets hard. If it drys just use a metal scraper like a 3 or 4 inch putty knife

A:  I've had no problem rinsing off tools after applying this product. As long as you clean up when you're done and not let tools dry (overnight) you should have no problem. You can always dip the tools in a bucket of water while working just to keep the material wet, and a little bit water helps with smoothing the finish on the asphalt patch.

A:  Yes. I would say up to 2" would be fine with this product if surrounding asphalt is in good shape. If the damage is bigger you should cut out the area with a carbide blade circ saw and use the other product that has asphalt mixed with stone.

Q:I just repaired 2 gallons of cracks on my driveway, and started to pour the remaining where it ends on sidewalk but I have about a 1/2" groove to fill in. That section was cleaned, filled with sand and applied crack filler. Since crack filler does not harden, I was hoping to apply this trowel patch to make it level. Then in 2 weeks have it hot sealed.

A:  You could use this patch to do that, or when hot sealing, just flood the crack with the hot seal.
