A:  The switch is wired differently from a traditional three or four way switch. You need to have a line in and the load to the lights in the same box with the main switch. Each additional switch box needs a hot and neutral and a communications wire. There are no runners or legs in this arrangement. Each remote switch is powered by the hot and neutral and then sends commands for on or off through the communications wire. I would recommend downloading the instruction manual and checking the compatibility of your wiring.

A:  This is possible without using voice as well. You can replace the kitchen switch with this switch or one like it and put a remote switch that is tied to it at the stairs. You'll need a Z-Wave hub and a battery-powered remote switch in addition to this or similar Z-Wave switch. You could also replace your stair light switch with a switch that supports scenes and control both the stairs and kitchen lights with it instead of the battery switch. Do a search for battery powered remote switches and you should get some good info on how to do it.

A:  Hi Tommyboy, you could install the Decora Smart Switch and use a Google Home or Alexa to turn it on and off. The switch is installed to replace the switch that turns on and off the kitchen light. Then set up the google home to control that switch. I have these switches in nearly all my rooms now and can control the lights from any room in the house. One note is that you will need to attach a common wire to this switch. I just ran a jumper from the common wires to the switch. Not a difficult installation but make sure you turn off the power first.

A:  No, but you can buy a z-wave compatible hub and an amazon Echo and control this switch (installed in the kitchen) with your voice. I wired all the main switches in the house with one of these and we now turn on and dim lights by just saying "Alexa, kitchen 60%" or "Alexa, goodnight" which turns off all the lights in the house.

A:  As to working with Alexa- you have to have a "Hub" for the Z-Wave technology to work. If you have a Z-wave compatible hub, it will work with Alexa. There is not a direct timer on it, but if you have a hub, such as Smartthings, you can program the on/off to include a timer. I have this setup in one of my rooms where the kids are only in there for a few minutes, but always forget to turn the lights off!

A:  Yes, it works with Alexa through the z-wave hub. Not certain what you about timer but the sumsung Smartthings hub has various timing on and off delay that you can use.
