Questions and Answers for Maxx Air 1600 CFM Mill Electric Powered Gable Mount Electric Attic Fan

A:  The diameter of the fan housing is approximately 15 inches. The blades themselves are 14 inches all the way across.

A:  This type of thermostat is very primitive and calibration to actual temperature is impossible. The scale should be roughly approximate in a range of +/- 5-10 degrees. 15 degrees is on the high side but probably not worth uninstalling and returning. What I do is go into the attic at the ~90 degree time of day and set the thermostat to trigger at that point. I don't pay much attention to the scale.

A:  My experience says it may take hours. I live in Oregon and just went through the heat dome with temps at 116. The attic fan ran most of the night, but I have the thermostat set about 90. On most evenings the fan runs for a couple hours after the sun goes down. My house is about 1900 square feet and I have no roof shading.

A:  I’m impressed with how it cools not just the attic space but also my living space. My home is only 960 square feet so it’s a definite do again if and when it stops working !!

A:  This question cannot be answered based on the fan alone. Location ventilation and a host of factors come in to play

A:  There are many different variables that can affect how long it takes for the temperature to drop. Make sure you have at least 600 square inches if intake ventilation for the fan to pull from. The best places for these vents would be the undereve and soffit vents. If you have good shingles, adequate and well placed intake vents, and insulation, you should notice a temperature drop in the attic within a few hours of use.

A:  The best venting to use with the gable fan would be undereve and soffit vents. These would allow the gable fan to pull fresh air from the bottom of the attic. Pulling the fresh air from the ridge of top of roof would not cool the attic as well.

A:  Yes, but make sure you have enough openings to allow for 1650 cfm so the fan isn’t over worked.

A:  As you probably know, it's not advisable to use a gable attic fan (of any kind) when you ALSO have a vent running the length of your roof peak (like what you describe). There are some exceptions to this rule, like how big your attic space is. I think the bigger the space -- like a walk around attic -- the more likely you can get away with a dual system (fan + peak vents). If you have a small attic --the kind you have to bend over or crawl to get around in-- then you need to choose one or the other systems. Otherwise they'll compete with each other and could end up actually drawing MORE warm air into the attic.

A:  Yes. The fan has to have if I remember correctly at least 800 square inches of air ingress into the attic. This is so the fan can draw in cooler exterior air and expelling the hot attic air. Actually these fans work amazingly well.

A:  Yes, the more ventilation you have in the attic, the better this will work. Eave or ridge vent (or even both together work great. In one of my houses I actually installed this fan on one end and then installed three 12 x 12 vents on the opposite end to pull through as much air as I could. It works great!

A:  Yes it can....This is a high volume ventilating fan so the more air you can intake into the attic space, the better it will work. I've used this product in several of my homes and it makes a noticeable difference

A:  This fan is manufactured for vertical installation in a gable. They are not designed to be mounted horizontally in a roof. A:  Yes that should not be a problem. Just need to run electrical to that location if not ready there.

A:  It runs on regular 110 house current.

A:  110 volts AC

A:  No, this fan cannot be used around food preparation. Doing so would cause a fire hazard and also void the warranty.

A:  I guess you could. I would rather put in a fan rated for kitchen exhaust to prevent the potential for creating a grease fire situation.

A:  If the dimensions are the same, it should work, though you'd need to change the wiring. The box at the end of the metal cable shielding includes a temperature switch so it kicks on automatically at whatever temp you set it at. That's usually much higher than A kitchen fan, which would be controlled by a separate switch and you'd probably turn it on when needed regardless of the air temp.

A:  I don't see why not. Just keep it dry.

A:  Yes, and it is a gable mount fan, so vertically is yes.

A:  Our gable fans are all manufactured to mount vertically in the gable of the attic. They should not be used in a roof.

A:  No fan is open both sides
