Answer This Question
A: These are 18" tiles that actually measured out at 17 3/4 if i am not mistaken. So the price per square foot is accurate. Each of the tiles are greater than a square foot.

A: Hi Evgenia,
This is a large 18"x18" tile- each piece of tile is 2.22 square feet, so 5 pieces together covers 11.1 square feet. If you divide the case price by the square footage, the calculation is correct. If you need to find the square-footage coverage for any other tile, it can be found in the first bullet point under the Product Overview section of the page.
Hope that helps!

Q:Would this work as waterline tile in a pool?

A: Hi,
We typically would not recommend using this outdoors in a climate that is prone to freezing. This tile is constructed of ceramic, making it semi-vitreous, meaning that it will absorb between 3-7% water. When these absorb water the tile freezes, and the natural expanding and contracting of the installation materials may result in cracking. That being said, you can choose to use these outside in this environment as long as you are aware that cracking is a possibility. These are chemical resistant, making them great for an area with pool chemicals. While we do not wish to deter you from a project, we want you to be aware of any potential challenges you may encounter. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

Q:Does this tile require any specific sealing or special methods for laying the tile. I am planning on using it in a guest/ children bathroom as the floor. Also is this manufactured pressed?

A: I do not know if the manufacturer pressed o just sprayed the image on the tile, I installed in a washroom and did seal the tiles when I sealed the grout but only because I found it to be easier than trying to seal just the grout.

A: Hi Lindsey!
This tile is pressed during production. While it is not necessary to seal this tile, sealing it could prolong the life of the tile. Home Depot always recommends Custom Building Products installation materials. Their Aqua Mix Penetrating Sealer http://thd.co/1TFzOUL offers no sheen for a natural look. Since sealer can change the look of your tile, we recommend following all of the directions on the packaging exactly for the best results. Be sure to test the sealer on scrap prior to sealing your whole installation to be sure you achieve the desired results. If you have any questions about the sealer, reach out to the manufacturer of the sealer. We always recommend sealing the grout to help with cleanup and to prolong the life of the grout. The scored grout lines in the tile can be grouted or left ungrouted according to your personal preference. Otherwise, these can be installed like most tiles with a thinset adhesive on an even substrate. If you need help with installing the tile, you can call Custom Building Products at 800-282-8786 for personalized help according to your project. For any additional questions about our tile, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

A: Good Afternoon,
The tile is greyer with brown undertones. Being as you know what you are looking for with this installation, it is best for you to see the tile and decide if it is best for your installation. Since we recommend seeing this tile prior to making a large purchase, we encourage that you order a sample. Samples come adhered to 4.5” x 5” sample cards, offering a color and texture sample, not a look at the whole tile. To see the whole tile, we recommend ordering a case. Home Depot offers a 90-day return policy on all unused items returned in the full quantity that they are sold (for this, by the case). Please note that variation in color, shade and texture are inherent characteristics of glass, glazed tile and stone. The actual material received may vary from this sample. The pattern, shape, dye lot (color) and size of the actual tile received may vary. If you have any further questions or want more information about samples, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

A: Hi Christina,
Grout color is ultimately a matter of personal preference, so it is best for you to decide. Grout color can drastically change the look of an installation, so it is best to choose this color carefully. Home Depot always recommends Custom Building Products installation materials. #9 Natural Gray or #52 Tobacco Brown are both excellent options for coordinating with this product. Using a color that closely matches the color of the grey design will help the grout colors blend, making it less noticeable that the scored grout lines and the actual grout lines are slightly different. Home Depot offers dried grout samples in the flooring department, and we recommend going to your local store and comparing the tile to these samples. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

Q:Two questions: 1.) Does this come in other colors? 2.) We ordered a sample box, it arrived fine. We decided we want to use it but now (early May 2017) we are getting messages online that it is not available. It doesn't say whether this means it's backordered or discontinued? Thank you.

Q:Since the scored grout lines are approximately 1/16" and you recommend a 3/8"-1/4" grout joint, should unsanded or sanded grout be used? I would prefer to use the same grout on both the scored grout lines and the larger grout joints. Thank you!

Answer This Question
A: Good Morning Christina, The scored grout lines on this tile are approximately 1/16”. For this tile we would not recommend using the same grout line size as the scored grout line. Depending on the flatness of your subfloor, you could use a 3/16” or ¼” grout line. We don’t recommend anything smaller because this tile is not rectified, meaning that the edges of the tile have not been ground down for precise sizing. When tiles are not rectified, they require larger grout joints. Grout lines are important because tiles expand and contract, and when the grout lines are too small this could cause damage to the installation, including cracking. For this installation you would want to use sanded grout or an epoxy grout. The epoxy grout would eliminate your need for sealing the grout joints but can also be tricky to work with. We do not wish to deter you from your project we just want you to be aware of any potential issues. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

Q:Can I use this tile for an outdoor covered condo balcony in Florida?
by|Apr 30, 2017

Answer This Question
A: Good Afternoon,
This tile can be used in outdoor spaces under certain conditions. If you live in a section of Florida where temperatures go below freezing, you may want to use some caution. This tile is made of ceramic, so it will absorb water. When water pools up underneath the tile, it will absorb into the tile. If the tile freezes, it can expand and contract which may cause cracking. Since the balcony is covered, the tile should be protected from the rain. If you are in a warmer climate within Florida that does not drop below freezing, you can certainly install this tile outdoors. If you are in a location where temperatures drop below freezing, you will want to get a vitreous or impervious tile that is frost resistant. If you are in a cooler climate that does drop below freezing, we recommend taking a look at our vitreous Atelier series http://thd.co/2dqptxf. We offer 4.5” x 5” sample cards of these items and recommend that you order them prior to making a large purchase. If you have any further questions, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!
