A: Medina, Good afternoon. There are risers that are made to fit on top of the 1200 series catch Basin.
The part you most likely would want is NDS #1216 (solid riser with no openings), but we also make a NDS #1217 that has 2 openings in it.

A: Hi Ishxb, the catch basin was design to connect to 3" & 4" S&D SDR35 Pipe, HDPE Triple Wall Pipe, and Single Wall Corrugated Pipe. If you decide to come down to a 2" Sch40 PVC Pipe, you will need a reducer adapter from 3" S&D x 2" Sch40.

Q:Why is this catch basin not used for downspout dumping into it from above? Why is it only used for directly piping into the basin? In cold climate, it seems there is an advantage dumping downspout discharge from above, because buried pipes freeze.

A: I may not be understanding your question, but I will "give it a go..." I have used this product in both FL and MN, the latter definitely qualifying as a "cold climate." Neither the basin nor the pipes that were connected to it froze, even though buried less than 2' under the surface. For all kinds of good reasons, you need to be certain to install the drainpipe(s) at a downward angle running away from the basin. In both FL & MN I have used the basin so that it a) allowed water to enter either through the grate on top of the unit or through the pipe attached to the side(s)/end(s). In both settings, downspout water entered the top of the unit.

A: This catch basin works better where you have a low point in your yard where water collect. The water drains into the basin and discharge where you want. If you use below a down spout the sheer volume of water may not catch the water. You can use an elbow pipe from the downspout to direct water into the catch basin however, you will have to cut a hole into the grate on top of the catch basin.

A: I don't know the answer to your question. These are made to collect water when buried at ground level, where the water can be captured in the basin and then PVC or other piping can be inserted in the side to direct that water away from flooded areas. That is how I use them successfully in low spots in my yard, to relieve pooling of rain water.

A: Catch Basin such as a 9" or 12" can be used under downspouts to collect downspout runoff, a common problem for downspouts where there might be erosion, flooding, water intrusion and/or structural damage, and wet basements or crawlspaces just to mention a few. Also, another reason why you want to use a catch basin besides the collection of downspout runoff, they are great for the prevention of large debris from entering the system when using the correct grate and are a great access point for the system. Each project or scenario is unique, you might have a catch basin collecting downspout runoff as your point of entry then connecting your pipe from your catch basin away to a safe location within your property line.
Correct, there is an advantage to using a catch basin, but at the same time other factors must be considered as such, placing weep holes on the 90-degree elbow that is located at the end of the run or discharge point. The weep hole(s) will then discharge any residual water from the system and have the water recharge back into the surrounding soil. This will help from water freezing in the system. The weep hole(s) should not be greater than 1/4" holes.

A: You will need to purchase NDS Part # 1216 which is a 12" x 12" Catch Basin Riser that is 7" tall for a net rise of 6".
Depending on the height difference, you may need multiple risers. Also, note that the riser can be cut to accommodate an exact height.

Q:If i need multiple basins 12x12 , how far apart should they be for 112ft area?

Answer This Question
A: It is recommended that catch basins be placed in the lower areas where water tends to collect. Spacing would also depend on how much water needs to be collected. This would be based on where the water is originating from (roof runoff, water in yard, etc), anticipated rainfall amount, and ability to slope the drain pipe from the catch basin. Once that information is known, a layout can be put together and number of basins can be determined. Please visit ndspro.com for additional information.
